“The problem is we have government infighting leading to mixed messaging.”
Aviation analyst and travel expert @PPaulCharles says in addition to holiday confusion, jobs and livelihoods depend on the clarity of government messaging over its traffic light system
#Newsnight
Encouraging developments. Next few days are crucial and we will be watching on as @BorisJohnson and @grantshapps set out their traffic light system. Safe and responsible is key to a summer of success
Portugal and some Greek and Spanish islands have been declared safe for travel by the Foreign Office, raising hopes that they could be on the Government’s “green” list. https://t.co/XAxOO4fb2P
This is significant - @DHSCgovuk says rapid antigen/lateral flow tests are in fact highly accurate. They are also much cheaper. So surely they can be used for testing of anyone who’s re-entered the #UK rather than insisting on more expensive PCR tests?

“If lateral flow tests are good enough to get our schools reopened, then surely they’re good enough to get our borders reopened?” @Independent@SimonCalder@ThePCAgency@SOSTravel3

So proud of what we were able to do in a very short space of time. 916 companies. £29bn in revenues represented. One aim of reopening travel in May. We have the roadmap we so desperately needed. #SaveOurSummer@sostravel3@PPaulCharles@ross88888@TrueTravel_
We’re delighted so many firms united to campaign successfully for a May restart. While thanking them for their support, we will continue to hold the government to account to ensure re-opening on 17/5. 16 million people will have been jabbed twice by then. https://t.co/S7mfW90PGj
Thank you to all of the brilliant supporters of #SaveOurSummer campaign. We focused the Govt on opening from May and they have listened. 876 companies from all areas of our industry. More work to be done but a huge step forward
Following @BorisJohnson's #RoadMap I will launch new ✈️Global Travel Taskforce✈️ to facilitate return to international travel while still managing risk from imported cases & Variants of Concern. Taskforce will report on 12 Apr.
International Travel resume no earlier than 17 May.
Enormous moment coming up for @BorisJohnson - the travel world and the wonderful supporters of #SaveOurSummer are willing you on to back the data and vaccines and open things up from May
Excellent interview from @PPaulCharles this morning on BBC News reiterating the refund / refix guarantee all 850 companies supporting @SOSTravel3 have signed to give consumers real confidence
We support the Govt’s measures when the risk of death is high. But it is going to become increasingly difficult to justify when positive tests, hospitalisation and deaths are falling rapidly and those at risk of dying from COVID have been protected
Our @ThePCAgency research for @SOSTravel3 shows that for some #Eurozone countries, if they continue their current downward infection rate trajectories, they’ll be at the same levels by end of March that they were when we produced our very first chart last August ⬇️ #SaveOurSummer
#SaveOurSummer is now supported by 721 large, medium and small companies with £23billion of revenues in the aviation and travel sector. The sector can’t be switched on overnight, like a pub, and needs ample time to start up. Please outline a roadmap for May onwards @BorisJohnson
#SaveOurSummer now represents 603 companies and £20billion in sales. 32 million people will have had at least one jab by 1 May, protecting 99% of those most at risk of death. We believe @BorisJohnson can target May for re-opening travel safely/responsibly. https://t.co/S7mfW90PGj
