Extremely worrying news coming out of Manipur.

An Assam Rifles soldier, belonging to the Kuki-dominated Churachandpur district as per Hindustan Times, who had recently joined duty shot at his six non-Manipuri colleagues on Wednesday morning before shooting himself dead at his battalion in remote Sajik Tampak area, Chandel district, south Manipur, along the Bharat-Myanmar border.

All injured have been rushed to Military hospital for further medical treatment and are reported to be stable now.

In a statement, Assam Rifles said that there was 'no relation whatsoever of this particular incident to the ongoing conflict in the state'.

“All Assam Rifles battalions have mixed class composition including those belonging to various communities from Manipur. All personnel have been staying and operating together despite polarization of society to maintain peace and stability in Manipur”, the statement added.

While the identity of the shooter is not known at this point, and his motivation for this horrible act of fratricide will only be known after a full investigation, some hard truths cannot be swept under the carpet anymore.

Recently, an Assam Rifles veteran Philip Khongsai, was arrested for the Oct 31, 2023 murder of Manipur Police officer Chingtham Anand Kumar in Moreh. Many locals have questioned the effectiveness of Assam Rifles in controlling the conflict raging in Manipur. Put simply, there are fears that AR may be compromised from within, and there have been multiple calls for a different CAPF or Indian Army unit to be deployed in the sensitive state.

The Evangel!cal Baptist Chμrch, with its roots in USA, has played a key role in radicalizing the janjatiya (tribal) hill communities of Manipur and rest of NE. Their divisive and supremacist religious teachings have not just destroyed the indigenous belief systems of these janjatis, who once formed part of the larger Dharmic family, but it has sown a deep hatred towards those communities int he NE that are still following Dharma and ancestral beliefs like the Meitei, Bru, Hajong etc.

Ground reports by news outlets like @NewsTheTruthh have shown how Christ!an fundamentalism is intertwined in the training of Kuki militant outfits, hinting at the hand of the Chμrch in instigating militancy. From Mizoram, to Kuki-dominated parts of Manipur, to the Chin-dominated areas in Myanmar - the dream is to establish a separate 'Christ!an homeland' for the Kuki-Zo people ...not very different to the 'Nagalim for Chr!st' call of NSCN(IM) in Nagaland.

Whose geopolitical interest will be served if parts of NE and Myanmar are carved up into multiple, volatile Christ!an-ethnic states, who will likely be at each other's throats (let's not forget that even Metei Christ!ans were not spared by Kuki militants in the ongoing conflict)?

While China's role in stoking insurgencies in NE has been rightly called out, the role of the US-backed Evangel!cal Churches and the US deep state in the ongoing unrest in Bharat's NE and Mynamar has not received enough attention from Indian think tankers & policy wonks, for obvious reasons.
