It’s easy to say the Penguins have held onto members of the Big 3 for too long. I’ve said it myself. The interesting thing about them through nine games is that the Big 3 is being let down by almost everyone else. My column:

As Malkin was credited after the VGK game with Pens’ last goal, it marked the 135th time he and Sid both scored in the same game – and the first time vs. VGK. Utah is the only team against which they have yet to do this.
Geno’s goal gives him 4 through his first 8 games of the season. The only time he had more goals in his first 8 games of a season was his rookie year of 2006-07, when he had 7.
With that Sid assist, Sid, Geno and Letang have now combined for 3,000 points in the 1,024 games they’ve played together, including playoffs:
Sid (476-772-1,248)
Geno (418-679-1,097)
Letang (154-501-655)
Total (1,048-1,952-3,000)
NHL team offence tiers by 5v5 expected goals per game, 2026-27 · through Oct 15
Creating the most: UTA, NJD, CGY, CAR, PIT
Starved for chances: OTT, NSH, SJS, PHI

I've been watching Sergei Murashov film all morning for a Goalie Tracking story I'm writing.
He is absurdly talented & mature beyond his years.
I'm well aware of the dangers of making proclamations about goalies off a small sample, but he looks like the next great Russian goalie.
