Went to see this documentary last night in DC. "We're Still Breathing" shines a light on the increasingly dark plight of Amharas in Ethiopia, who have for decades been ethnically targeted by different actors in the country. The American Ethiopian Public Affairs Committee (AEPAC) urges all Ethiopians, irrespective of their ethnic or religious affiliations, to unite against atrocities like the #Maikadra Massacre and collectively declare, "NEVER again." This tragic event orchestrated by The Tigray Liberation Front (TPLF) against ethnic Amhara goes down as one of darkest in Ethiopian history. TPLF has caused immeasurable pain and suffering for over five decades, affecting the wider Ethiopian community without sparing those in Tigray.

The senseless violence witnessed in the Maikadra Massacre, resulting in the deaths of over 1600 innocent Amhara civilians, is a grim reminder of the consequences of divisive ideologies. Survivors recount the shock and disbelief at the betrayal by individuals they once considered neighbors and friends from Tigray, emphasizing the deep-seated bonds that were shattered by these unfathomable acts of violence.

Ethiopia's ongoing struggle is rooted in a governance system that prioritizes extreme ethnocentrism, corroding the very essence of this ancient and diverse nation. The power to salvage the nation lies within the unity of Ethiopian citizens, transcending the manipulative agendas of self-serving, ethnocentric politicians. These leaders perpetuate divisions for their gain, indifferent to the dire repercussions, as evidenced by tragedies akin to the Maikadra Massacre.

It's pivotal for Ethiopians to recognize that solidarity and a shared vision for a harmonious, inclusive nation are the tools to thwart such tragedies. Only by standing together against divisive politics and promoting unity can the country heal and progress beyond the current tumultuous times.

It is also time for the international community including the USA to stand by side of the Ethiopian people.
