When I was invited to playtest Wild Ride by @Gonixel21, I knew I couldn't turn it down. I had offered to do playtesting and showcases for them months ago, and this is the first instance of it. I've been super excited about this level since the first playtest copy, and it looks really awesome. This level also clocks in at XL, being 2mins 5secs, which shows how dedicated Gonixel was to building it.
The base gameplay is really fun, and it only somehow got better during the playtesting phase. Some things do feel a bit spontaneous, but it's pretty learny Medium Demon-aimed gameplay. It works really well with Creo's song "Ballistic Funk" and matches the intensity of the song really well. I'm a huge fan of the gameplay!
As for the decoration, it really comes back to the classic design style that Gonixel has done in a lot of his past levels. This one is no different, but as you get further into the level, wackier things happen. Ever since a few levels ago from him, I've been a major sucker for his stylistic choices. A lot of moving objects work well with this level, as well as his style in general, and I'm genuinely a big fan of it.
In the endscreen, he states that he gained inspiration from many talented design creators that he's collabed with, namely wetols, wspRocky, Rafer, and TamaN. He also credits Loltad for inspiration, most likely for his level "Worse Trip" using the same song. Eitherways, I think this level is very awesome and I can't wait to see the community's reaction to it! Thank you to Gonixel for the opportunity to playtest!
@MaksMemer1@_beez99_ Aware it has its small quirks. I can't really guide any updates or state my opinion on the level yet due to it being an entry for a contest I'm judging (and judging hasn't begun yet)
This is Turn Back, a recently Epic rated level by @_beez99_. I've been following the building process of this level for a while now, and though I can't really give my opinion on it because it's an entry for the Good Kid CC (which I'm judging for) I think it's really cool. Enjoy!
When I saw the preview for @NeekiDoodle's new level "Chillwave", I was blown away by the quality of the artwork. After trading a conversation back and forth, he told me he went for a Frutiger Glacier theme, and after searching it up, it checks out entirely. Frutiger Glacier is a style based on icy and cool designs, and this style makes me feel cold.
The level is focused heavily on a cool color scheme, and I noticed how distinct the progression of the level is. It goes through many parts with chill atmospheres, from an icy webspace in the beginning to a snowy mountain in the last part. The theme stays consistent throughout the entire level, and feels quite intuitive throughout. It uses quite unique UI elements in each part and it all works well with the decoration.
As for the gameplay, it's very simple to learn, with it being Hard difficulty. There's not really much to say about it other than it's good and sightreadable, as easier levels should be.
Neeki's clean colorwork makes for some really awesome levels, with my introduction to him being Corporate Slop, and now with this level. His art style is very amazing as well, and I'm very happy this level is finally out!
Viprin was a true inspiration to me and many others. It's very sad that he's leaving, as he inspired me to start my community events and help with them throughout his time. GD All Nighter, Good Kid CC, Blitz Jam, and so many others wouldn't have been possible without him, as well as many official events like Icon contests, Gauntlet contests, and even GD10. We'll miss you.
In replies, I will link a few projects that will carry on his legacy.
I'll be making a video on my channel that is a tribute to Viprin, with the script being a message I sent to him through Discord DMs. I'll quote tweet this when it comes out. Thank you Viprin for everything!
