I drew some of the species I work with for NEARMI! Wood frog, Eastern newt, Spotted salamander, Shenandoah salamander and the red-backed salamander (w/ lead-backed morph, too)! @USGSWetlands@USGS Screen printing this on shirts for the field crew to rep during field season๐ฆ๐ธ
@AmbystoMax real talk !!! this is why some of the best & realest conversations I have are on walks/hikes or car rides where we are both looking forward or like doing an activity like crafts where weโre using our hands and not expected to just stare into each others eyes the whole time lmao
Iโm currently working as a science TA for 7-8 graders and they are so funny โ they make me laugh every day! this week when asked what an agar plate was one of them said something about โa place where stinkies growโ which is honestly so true ๐งซ couldnโt have said it better myself
@AmbystoMax OH & get this โ even after getting a doctors note, other associates (not even managers!) keep mentioning how I canโt have a water bottle and it irks me so badly. itโs not their place & itโs none of their business about my medical note. it made me mad enough to rant on twitter lol
@AmbystoMax thatโs exactly what my doctor said!!! sadly I had to get a retail job for the Winter because thereโs slim-pickings/competitive for natural resource jobs in my area. Thankfully Iโll be outta there in 11 days & have interviews coming up!! Hoping to get back in the field come Spring
When #yards include nature, it's a win-win solution for both people and biodiversity.
We reviewed ecological/social benefits of yard restoration & show the footprint of US residential area goes beyond urban areas--much higher than previous estimates (30%) https://t.co/ymPrlyc1sy
found this lil snake in the sand and vegetation while surveying tiger beetle larval burrow holes the other day. their tongues always remind me of the ๐ฅณ emoji
One of my favorite parts of being an amphibian scientist is introducing people to the critters I work with, I was lucky enough to be able to show my kiddo friend his very first salamanders! We scored 2 juvenile spotted sals and a leadback! #happyherping
I equate achieving full confidence in tadpole ID with reaching nirvana. Would any enlightened ones out there care to help me ID these sent to me by a partner? Taken in Eastern MA last week. Please and thank you!!!!
Spring salamander surveys are in full swing! Here are some of the beauties that graced the streams and provided the NEARMI team with valuable data so far this season #Gporphyriticus
painted my cap with some of the critters and places that made my undergrad experience so magical ๐๐ชฒ๐๐ฆ๐ธ๐ and had a little grad photoshoot moment with the bug buddies in Fernald
