The Mets’ lineup is going to look very different in 2026. A look at how this offseason reshaped the offense and why it could lead to better results.
@Metsmerized
If Carlos Mendoza ever puts on a Mets uniform again it’s a complete slap in the face to the entire fanbase. The blame is not on him - as the players all stink - but he’s presided over 4 consecutively terrible months of baseball spanning two seasons with no end in sight
@sam_carus5 Someone needs to be the scapegoat though. The manager with an expiring contract is probably the lowest hanging fruit. Good teams, well managed teams, do not lose on extended streaks as frequently as during the Mendoza tenure
Carlos Mendoza’s in-game cluelessness does not hold a flame to his inability to keep a clubhouse loose.
The blame is on the players and the FO as well - but Mendy is the low hanging fruit that has to be cut ways with now.
Phillies fired Girardi at 22-29 in ‘22
If the mets intend on treading lightly with their top relievers to the point where Dickie Lovelady has to pitch every game - Stearns needs to find some better options because he’s terrible
@JoeOrrico99@RobSilver Can’t conflate being fantasy useful vs real-life useful
Surprising they sent him down but it’s a stretch to say below avg chase, whiff, k, and bb rates were indicative of solid discipline/approach. Had a brutal spring, Good glove, but needs to be great to offset a 79 OPS+
@paulyc1117 Yeah was surprising that CWS non-tendered him in the first place - on the wrong side of the aging curve - but he has been consistently above average at dish and loves getting on base.
Immediately vaults ahead of Jared Young and Melendez for me in terms of OF depth
Great job by many of you flagging this.
Here are FOUR different times this offseason where #WhiteSox GM Chris Getz has referred to Luisangel Acuña as a switch hitter.
Acuña is, in fact, NOT a switch hitter.
Not great. Four times isn’t a misspeak.
The Mets ability to trade 2 T100 prospects and still have 4 consensus T100 guys (McLean, Benge Tong, Ewing) a few other fringe T100 guys (Reimer, Clifford) plus rising arm talent in the upper minors (Wenninger, Watson, Gordon) is a place the organization has never been before
David Stearns has preached wanting to turn the Mets into a sustainable winner. It starts from the ground up. The farm system is starting to reap its benefits - providing ammo for elite talent acquisition while injecting the roster with valuable contributors.
What a week for the Mets. I feel sorry for anyone who mistook David Stearns’ patience for lack of aggression. Timed the market perfectly. The Mets are far better than they were in 2025 and anybody who says otherwise is lying to themselves.
