These kids are just dying to be loved! They just want some attention, or to hear kind words said about them, or to experience a positive touch. Despite everything else, they just want to be loved.
Taught the definition of “audacity” yesterday. Looked up today and heard a kid say, “I can’t believe you’d have the AUDACITY to say something like that to me!”
Might seem small, but it’s cool to me.
Any success I’m able to experience today in the classroom will have been the result of me building positive relationship with my scholars. #RelationshipsMatter
One thing is for sure, the educators in Virginia Beach, VA are determined to make a difference this school year! The last two days with all of you was amazing ❤️
Let’s keep getting better for our scholars 🙏🏾

I’m struggling right now to forgive a scholar for their behavior today. I feel disrespected, and deep down, I want to “show them.” But... love doesn’t hold today’s offenses against someone tomorrow. So, I will CHOOSE to forgive, clear their slate, and keep things moving.
My mornings are usually, “blah,” but the moment I see those kids, or hear a “good morning” from afar, something in my head clicks, and my mind/body says, “LET’S GO!”
As school leader, my number one goal is to inspire staff and students to think differently about education. Stop doing things the same way. We are getting the same results #itspersonal
Admin, you hired new teachers based upon their talents. So, don't manage them based on their weaknesses. Too often we hire new people and immediately focus on areas of growth (mediocrity) , instead of on developing their talents where they can really excel.
Kids want to learn. They do. I’ve found that they become disruptive to their own desire to learn when I:
Talk too much
Take too long with instructions
Give complex instructions too fast
So basically, for their sake, I need to get out of the way.
JUST IMAGINE-There's a struggling child somewhere in America who's going to have a breakthrough today through the magic of how he / she is greeted this morning at school. Something abt that greeting is going to make a solid & lasting connection that was never experienced before.
It is Hump Day! Reflection and action are powerful tools that keep me relevant, current and focused on our work in APS. Earlier this week, I had an amazing coaching session with my awesome Principal Coach Mrs. Gunner! #learngrowbetterstronger
Your facade won’t inspire others. The authentic, imperfect, and 100% you - with your genuine life and daily struggles - is a true inspiration. Tell your story. The real one. You are enough.
Folks are waiting to know the real you. Just in case you didn’t know.

As I sit in front of my home watching the scholars walk to school, it is my prayer that each of them walk into a classroom with a teacher who posses the attitude, "My students WILL be successful BECAUSE I am their teacher."
A6 A pet peeve of mine are the words, "rules" & "consequences." They send a completely counterproductive message and are a common mistake for new and veteran educators. I much prefer "expectations," "norms," "values," etc. These have a much more positive connotation. #ELMagChat
