In recent years, I have grown to value simulation studies. They address complexities in a way that would be very hard to do empirically. This paper with Sophie Hendrikse and Jan Treur is a nice example. We explored how people adapt their behavior to another within and across relationships. We used a general dynamic system modeling approach. This work is part of Sophie Hendrikse's dissertation, which she is to defend on June 17.

Pathological altruism (PA) is a paradoxical psychological trait. It is associated with compulsive helping. People high in PA report that their constant helping causes others harm and people regularly tell them to stop trying to help. Nevertheless, people high in PA maintain their helping behavior because they crave admiration and dread rejection.
Impressions from an amazing symposium this morning on The Initiation of Emotion Regulation in Daily Life with exciting work by @hu_danfei, Derek Isaacowitz, Renee Thompson, and @anhhtran95 presented by @katiehgreenaway
