Gordon Brown sold 395 tonnes of our gold reserves at the bottom of the market, and - stupidly - told the market in advance.
Gold has since risen 1500% and the gold he sold would be worth £40 billion more today.
Now Starmer brings him back as his Finance Envoy.
A sick joke
@MartinSLewis That after 35 years full NI contributions, you continue working and contributing, but get no more pension for your trouble. Retire and stop paying NI ASAP, or put max AVC's into your private pension to minimise NI until Rachel R abolishes salary sacrifice.
@Ed_Miliband@james_freeman__ Can’t wait for Richard to take over and bring some sanity.
You are a actual madman.
Your a liar, a scammer, a cheat.
What’s in the China deal? Why would a sane person entertain Newsome.
A straight jacket is needed for you.
@Ed_Miliband ... 2/. While counted as "carbon neutral" under international rules, the combustion of woody biomass emits more at the stack than coal...creating a higher immediate carbon footprint
@Ed_Miliband 1/. Google, does DRAX have higher carbon emissions from burning imported wood than if it burnt UK mined coal? Yes Drax Power Station’s carbon emissions from burning imported wood pellets are higher per unit of electricity generated than if it were to burn coal....
@Ed_Miliband Import LNG gas from Quatar and USA is 3 x the carbon cost of home grown N Sea gas. Just google it. This guy is gas lighting (excuse the pun).
"Sell out energy security to fossil fuel interests" — The UK currently imports LNG at global spot prices, largely from Qatar and the US. We're already dependent on foreign fossil fuels because domestic production has been deliberately strangled. Extracting our own gas from the North Sea and shale reserves is literally the opposite of selling out energy security — it's taking it back. Miliband's alternative? Intermittent wind and solar backed by… imported gas for when the wind doesn't blow.
"Trash the countryside with fracking" — A fracking pad occupies roughly 2 acres. A single onshore wind farm of equivalent energy output sprawls across thousands of acres with access roads, substations, and pylons. Solar farms are consuming agricultural land at an unprecedented rate under his watch. The countryside is already being trashed — just with things Ed approves of.
"Cost hundreds of thousands of clean energy jobs" — These "jobs" are largely subsidy-dependent. If your industry only exists because the government forces consumers to pay above-market rates through levies and contracts for difference, you don't have a real industry — you have a wealth transfer scheme. Meanwhile, a domestic gas and nuclear strategy creates jobs that don't evaporate when subsidies get cut.
"Cause bills to skyrocket" — This is genuinely audacious from the man who presided over the highest electricity prices in Europe. UK bills skyrocketed because of the renewables-first strategy that links electricity pricing to marginal gas costs while loading green levies on top. Cheap domestic gas would directly reduce the wholesale price. That's not theory — it's what happened in the US with shale.
Miliband isn't making an argument. He's listing his own failures and blaming the people proposing alternatives.
@Ed_Miliband Fracking would be fantastic for the community of Fylde. Well paid jobs in a deprived community. Not many people realise (I have it from good authority) the protestors were hired in and paid by local NIMBYS ( they could not be bothered themselves).
@Ed_Miliband We will be one of the countries least affected by rising temps. Will most likely benefit from it as we have since 1970's with increased crop yields and less disruption from snow. So we shoukd not be crippling industry with second most expensive energy costs in western world.
@Ed_Miliband How about mining BTC from the excess power that can't be distributed by wind farms. Oh sorry I did not notice you have your fingers in you ears!
