Information reaching me now is that another university has just completed its SURCON accreditation. Over the past months schools like FUOYE, ATBU, OAU have all gotten theirs done. Same NUC circular FUTA @FUTAkure claims is the obstacle.

In their words: "Do you want us to disobey our principal officers?"

What a convenient excuse to hide behind, when every other university facing the exact same circular has managed to obey their principal officers AND get their students accredited.

We were told the circular made accreditation impossible. Yet school after school has found a way through it. At what point does this excuse stop being a reason and start being a choice?

The SURCON Committee came for accreditation and she blatantly denied them. The only two possibilities are either the VC is holding out for a better position rather than protecting the students' interests and ambitions, or she knows that pushing accreditation through — like every other school just did — puts her own ambition at risk. Either way, students are the collateral damage in someone else's calculation.

Neither is a good enough reason to leave hundreds of students and graduates in this uncertainty. If other NUC member universities can push through this circular and get their students accredited, FUTA can too. What they're calling an obstacle, everyone else is calling Tuesday.

I can't express how frustrated and tired enough I am about this whole issue. Is it my fault I chose to study in FUTA again?

Dear Sir,

We write to you as Surveying and Geoinformatics students and recent graduates from universities across Nigeria because your voice consistently reaches people and moves conversations that would otherwise stay buried.

Since May 2025, a regulatory dispute between the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON) has left thousands of us in prolonged professional uncertainty. NUC issued a circular excluding SURCON from its statutory role in accrediting Surveying and Geoinformatics programmes nationwide despite SURCON's mandate coming from an Act of the National Assembly, not from NUC's discretion. Other regulated professions retained their oversight bodies. Surveying did not.

The practical effect over a year later is that students currently enrolled and graduates from as recently as last year, still have their certificates recognised for professional registration for schools whose accreditation has expired. Not because of anything they did wrong but because two government bodies have not resolved this. SURCON has publicly called for dialogue. That call has gone largely unanswered.

This story hasn't broken through the way it should. Surveying isn't a profession most people think about, so a crisis like this doesn't get the same national attention a similar situation in law or medicine would. We believe your platform could help close that gap.

We're not asking you to become an activist for this cause. We're asking for one thing: help us put this in front of people who wouldn't otherwise hear about it. A single post or retweet from you acknowledging this is happening would do more to move this than months of us posting into a smaller audience.

Thousands of young Nigerian students and graduates who did everything right are stuck because two agencies won't talk to each other. We believe your voice could be part of what finally makes that costly for them to ignore.

Do not remain on the task working page you were using (example: picture 1). Always exit the working page and return to the general task view page (example: picture 2).

Why?
If you leave your system on the working page, Multimodal may think you are still active and working. If the required task completion time is exceeded, you may get timed out, and that is not good for your account health.
