The Destination Addiction:

Do you remember this Adam Sandler movie, Click?

He had a remote; capable of controlling life.

He could mute, pause, skip, freeze, and even dub his life moments with it.

Using the remote, he fast forwards through traffic, fights with his wife, foreplay before sex, tasks at work, dinner with his parents, and other moments he finds boring and not so useful.

Eventually he skips most of his life, living on auto-pilot, because he wants to get to that dream destination he has in mind as soon as possible.

The cost is sacrificing his marriage, family, and even health.

Remembering it, made me question myself:
Do you live your life only to get to the end of it?

Of course not! I immediately thought to myself.

But don't we all, somehow, live like this?

It’s easy to get caught up in destination addiction.

For some reason, our goal is not to enjoy the day, it is to get through the day:

- Whatever we are doing, we are thinking about what comes next.

- We wait for that trip and when we're on the trip we can't wait to go back home.

- We hope the next big success will finally make us happy.

This is called "Destination Addiction."

What does it mean?

It’s a belief that happiness is somewhere in the future; in the next place, event, job, or with a different partner.

What's wrong with it?

You’re taking what you have for granted; not enjoying the journey.

Even when you achieve the things you always craved for, you realize this doesn't make you happy enough.

It becomes a habit; you're happy for buying that new car, but just two weeks later it becomes another thing to be taken for granted.

And happiness becomes harder and further to reach.

But, don't you need to have purposes in life?

The word “the end” has two different meanings:

- Finish: The end of a project, job, travel,...

- Purpose: Your vision, your values,...

Destination Addiction only focuses on finishes and not on purpose.

The other day I saw this quote:
“Whatever you do, do it with intelligence, and keep the end in view.”

I think, "to live intelligently" means: to fully live every moment of life with a purpose in mind and gratitude in heart.

Once you understand this you're going to do things differently:

- Personal growth becomes a priority.
- Social media show off becomes cringe.
- Being alone will never bother you anymore.
- Money becomes a tool to work on your values.
- Genuine people will be more attractive in your eyes.
- You'll never think low of yourself because of what people have and you don't.

This is the key to stay in growth lane, whether you have a little or a lot.
