Founded in AD674, the Abbey is a vibrant parish church with a strong musical tradition, inclusive welcome, inspiring services and a packed programme of events.
Looking forward to seeing you for special events in 2024, marking 1350 years since the foundation of St Wilfrid’s original church from which the town of Hexham has grown with the Abbey and priory buildings. Details of all events will appear here and on the Abbey website.
THIS SATURDAY:

The ‘night stair’ in Hexham abbey. Dating to the 1200s, the staircase allowed the canons here to travel directly between their dormitories and the heart of the church. #History#SpotTheHiddenMouse
At the top is a list of those involved in the installation. Below are the details of one of the opening recitals given by one of this country's leading concert organists, Dame Gillian Weir (misspelt in the inscription!). She was also Mrs Phelps! (2/2) #heritage#conservation
This photograph was recently sent to us by the company that has maintained our Phelps organ for many years. These inscriptions are on the top of the outer tower on the north side of the case where, in ordinary circumstances, no one would see them! (1/2)
The Rector & community at Hexham Abbey are devastated by the shocking death of one of our young people.
We have made space available in the Abbey for anyone who wishes to light a candle and reflect on this terrible tragedy.
We will hold all those affected in our prayers.
Join us at the Abbey and via Hexham Abbey Live Stream at YouTube for this evening's @NDAS_Northumb White Ribbon service, remembering lives lost through domestic violence and pledging ourselves to the White Ribbon promise.
We really enjoyed meeting Michael from Hexham Abbey Choir in School and having a go at some of the vocal warm ups. Please see the attached information about joining the Choir as they are currently recruiting! #musicmatters@NclDiocese@PeleTrust@HexhamAbbey@N_landCouncil
