Just (re)launched KnowYourCut, a fee comparison tool that helps digital creators see what they actually earn after platform cuts.
If you sell on Gumroad, Etsy, CGTrader, TurboSquid, Sellfy or Amazon KDP… this one’s for you. (More marketplaces added monthly).
New to selling 3D assets? Don’t get caught out by "hidden" fee structures.
Most platforms take a different cut based on exclusivity or seller levels. The FREE TurboSquid Calculator breaks down every cent, from royalty rates to total fees, so you can price your assets with confidence.

Just shipped: 11 individual marketplace fee calculators for KnowYourCut
Etsy UK & US • Gumroad • Patreon • Ko-fi • CGTrader • TurboSquid • Fab • Unity • Substack • Beehiiv
Each one tailored to the exact fee structure. No more guessing what you'll actually take home.
@parthkmodi Yep, this is exactly it. They say 6.5% but once you add listing + payment processing + (sometimes) offsite ads, it adds up fast… and it hurts way more on <$5 items.
I just added a feedback button to KnowYourCut.
If the calculator helped you → tell me what worked.
If it confused you → tell me what broke.
If it's missing something → tell me what you need.
Every piece of feedback goes straight to my email inbox.
Or just DM me here.
Your marketplace shows you one fee.
There are five.
Platform fee.
Payment processing.
Transaction fees.
FX conversion.
Listing fees.
Free calculator that adds them all up → https://t.co/deZOWpUd3T
Thinking about leaving your marketplace?
Before you switch:
• Calculate your real take-home (after ALL fees/costs)
• Estimate migration hours × your hourly rate
• Factor in customers who won't follow you
Sometimes the "expensive" platform is cheapest per hour of your life
@ecomchigga Good breakdown but those %s miss payment processing fees.
Gumroad is actually ~13-15% total:
- 10% platform
- 2.9% + $0.30 processing
- $0.50 per sale
On $27 that's ~$4 in fees, not $2.70
Worth knowing when setting prices so no surprises when calculating profit margins.
Sell a $10 printable on @Sellfy or @Shopify → you keep $9.41.
Sell it on @Etsy → you keep $8.60.
And on @CreativeMarket → you keep $5.00. That's half your revenue gone.
Fees aren't everything, but they compound as you scale.
Choose your platform wisely.
How do most creators choose their platform?
• A creator they like uses it
• They saw someone mention it online
• It "felt right"
That's like picking a restaurant because it looks nice from outside, then being pissed off about their prices after you've ordered.
Digital creators:
£100 sale. What you actually keep:
Etsy: £76 (24% gone)
Patreon: £83 (17% gone)
Gumroad: £87 (13% gone)
Platform fee is just the beginning
Add processing, VAT, FX, payout fees, listing fees, ads...
This is why you actually lose 15-25% in fees.
5/ Pro tip: If you use PayPal for payouts instead of bank transfer, add another 2% fee.
That $24.46 becomes $23.88.
Now you're at 17.7% total fees.
Always check payout method fees too.
4/ To be clear: Gumroad isn't hiding this.
The info is there in their help docs.
But most creators don't calculate the compound effect of multiple fee layers.
I'm not saying don't use Gumroad - just know your real numbers before pricing.
Two days ago: I see a reply on one of my tweets from @beehiiv about their new digital creator platform charging 0% fees
Same day: I add Beehiiv to the KnowYourCut platform list so digital creators can compare its fees to platforms like @substack@Patreon@kofi_button@gumroad
still early days but it’s getting more useful.
Remember: it's free, unlimited calculations, no sign-up required.
trying to make this whole “picking a platform” thing a little less painful for digital creators.
Feedback welcome.
Updates to KnowYourCut:
• added Beehiiv (0% commission + Stripe fees only)
• fixed ranking so if platforms pay the same net, they all show #1, not #1/#2/#3
• now comparing 20+ platforms (Beehiiv, Gumroad, Patreon, Substack, Stripe, Etsy + more)
