@steveschale@magi_jay One reason I think Troy Jackson will be fine and Hong and El-Sayed may not: Jackson is running on the parts of the progressive platform that are popular instead of anchoring himself to conspiracy theorists who hate America. Plus El-Sayed is just a prick naturally.
@mattyglesias@tomwatson Yeah I’m curious about Troy’s fundraising numbers. His would-be core of support is animated by beating Democrats. I’d be surprised if they’ve even thought about the race since he got the nomination.
@jonfavs@AbdulElSayed Has he caught fire? He’s polling behind Rogers. Why do you push so hard for Democratic nominees who will cost us seats? What is the incentive?
For the past 10 years the Democratic party has essentially been in an abusive relationship...
They let this guy run in their primary, use the party apparatus and in return he has basically spent all of his time shitting on the party, calling them corrupt, claiming that they were 'rigging' it against him.
The party even tried to placate him (again, someone who is a non-Democrat) after he lost cleanly in 2016 by making a bunch of reforms that he/his allies claimed were necessary for 'trust'. So they made these reforms that were clearly intended to help one candidate win in 2020...and he still lost (because his 'strategy' was to win 1/3 of the vote).
Anyway, the party has coddled him for the past 10 years and gotten nothing but shit for it. Just a tremendous, massive asshole.
@Wilson__Valdez@magi_jay His message about Democrats was always essentially “Democrats can prove they’re worthy of me by making me a president” and Democrats and left leaning media are too terrified of his supporters to point out what a crock of shit that is
@jonfavs I think you know the DNC has the option to disregard the NH primary if they don’t follow the DNC’s rules. They did this in 2008 to Obama’s benefit
@mattyglesias This is why I’m not hot on AOC’s 2028 presidential primary chances. She’s not hostile enough to other Democrats to fire up the people who would be her core supporters. They don’t even really want power, they want to own the libs
When 13 soldiers died evacuating 125,000 from Afghanistan after its government collapsed in the wake of a deal *Trump* left for Biden to manage, the media came down on Biden like a ton of bricks - FOR WEEKS. Trump's glib dismissal of 18 deaths at his hands? One day (at most)
The cool thing about our government these days is you literally have no way of knowing if this was FDA incompetence or whether the Taylor Farms folks (who are big Trump donors!) called in a favor and got Dear Leader to intervene so they don't look bad 🙃
@samstein El-Sayed is a prick. He was a prick when he ran against Whitmer and he’s a prick now. He’ll be a very ineffective Senator if he gets the opportunity
