IT departments typically have the reputation of being the gatekeepers, the bottlenecks for progress. It is where you, the employee, sent your ideas to die. New report you need? IT puts it into a queue and may get to it eventually. New tool or app you need? IT puts it into a queue and may get to it eventually.
Truth be told, this is not IT fault. They have a lot to deal with including but not limited to making sure systems are running (you all want your email, right?) and that you are not being hacked. That stuff is hard and relentless. However, with AI, you the employee, can get whatever you need simply by asking your AI. Need that report, ask and you shall have it. Need that tool or app, ask and you shall have it. Great, right?!
NO, this has opened a Pandora's box of security, compliance and security holes the likes we have never seen! But the genie is out of the box and IT departments must find a way to support employee-built apps without the risk of destroying the organization. This is why we built Greenlight by Shift. We are doing the hard work so IT can say yes. Join our early access program.

I feel like my industry as a whole has jumped straight to "AI agents" and skipped (IMHO, the natural next step) apps built by the people who actually do the work altogether. Most of us Humans would rather start with something we can see and control before giving it over to an indeterministic system of AI agents. Not to mention, keeping track of all these supposed agents is an abstract exercise that most of us simply can't deal with at the moment.
Just realized that a common task I do for all my startups is to continuously follow the team around and push the chairs neatly under the table in conference rooms when they're done. I guess that's ok. I may get worried when I start following everyone around to turn off the lights when they exit a room.
I'm genuinely excited - for the first time in years, I'm addicted to using a product we're building. Every day, it's becoming an essential part of my workflow.
If you're curious what it is... stay tuned. We're announcing our Alpha next week. (Hint: It's called Folio) ๐
Multiply AI is hosting GenAI for Enterprise: What's Next After ChatGPT? Digital Workers & AI Agents. Make sure to attend it on July 17, and repost if you care :)
