@GreatLakesWife_ Mine was the same way, which isn’t helpful other than knowing you’re not alone. Second baby is a champion sleeper and we’ve changed nothing. You’re a great mom even if it doesn’t feel like it!!
@GreatLakesWife_ This was my experience with my first! All advice sucked and made me feel like I was doing everything wrong when she was just a bad sleeper. She’s 2.5 and still wakes up once a night. Second baby - haven’t changed anything and he slept 6 hours in a row at 4 weeks.
@bquicker@JackPosobiec speaking from experience removing my baby from me would have made PPD INFINTELY worse. I needed sleep, not taking away the only thing I cared about
@GreatLakesWife_ We had a “hard” baby too. Hated sleeping. I share your experience and it can be lonely. I don’t have advice, just solidarity. She’s 2 and such a sweetheart now. But newborn months I barely remember. Such a blur and rarely enjoyable.
@ChildrensHD My daughter was 3/4 days old and they asked when I was planning to give her Hep B vaccine. I said “never, she’s a baby, not a drug addict” and I was promptly told I’d need to find care elsewhere.
@Cernovich Not when you watched your parents and all your friends parents get divorced. You’re willing to try anything different to not end up like them.
Giving birth is not for the weak of heart.
Never has been.
It’s one of the most potently primal and dangerous things a woman can do.
For some, it’s magical.
For others, it’s terrible.
For most of us, it’s a combination of the two.
No matter what, tho… it’s POWERFUL.
It’s one of those arms-thrown-into-the-sky,
“LOOK AT WHAT I JUST FUCKING DID,”
Mountaintop Moments
in the life of a Woman.
Whether she white knuckled it in the back of a moving car with nothing but her own willpower to get her thru,
Or in a hospital bed, unable to feel the lower half of her body after taking a 9 inch needle to her spine,
Or if everything went perfectly, just as she planned,
Or if she had to be sliced wide open on a cold, metal table,
Or if she shouldn’t have survived,
but somehow, she did….
No matter WHAT,
No matter HOW…
She stood as a PORTAL in that moment.
She touched the Other Side.
And, hopefully, she brought someone else back thru it with her.
A whole new person, here, in this world, because she did it.
And sometimes…
as hard as she tried…
and as bravely as she battled…
she wasn't able to.
Sometimes
She lays alone on a bloody bed
And the world crashes around her
Because the portal closed too fast…
Something went wrong…
And she’s forever to be haunted by a presence
That she never even got to meet.
A life over, before it even got to begin.
And she was there.
She was the place where Birth and Death came to meet.
Yes.
Even her.
Even then.
Mountaintop Moment.
There is simply no way to stand as that Portal, and not be powerfully touched.
There is no part of it which demands anything less than total strength, power, will and spirit.
Only those of us who have held that space can know exactly what that means.
What that moment,
and all the moments leading up to it,
demand of a Woman.
What we give for it.
What it takes.
What fears and pains and get-the-fuck-thru-this moments that are required in getting there.
The way the world moves so fast,
and then STOPS.
Everything goes blurry and into slow motion,
and how there’s this single pointed focus
and a Power that you didn’t even know lived inside you, that KNOWS WHAT TO DO.
When to push.
When something’s wrong.
When it’s TIME.
There’s no other moment in life when our magnificent instincts are so alive.
No other moment when our Womanhood is more primally activated.
In that moment, covered in blood, we stand on that Mountaintop.
And... it COSTS us to get there.
It’s a singular experience, even in all its variations…
and no man can ever know it.
It’s a club you can’t join, boys.
You simply don’t have what it takes.
You’re not built for it, body or soul.
If you doubt that, just ask any man who has watched his Woman do it.
He will give you absolute confirmation.
That Mountaintop, it’s ours alone.
We are the Guardians of that gateway.
The Keepers of that magic.
The Shepherdesses of the Spirits who seek to enter into this world.
If you think it is mechanical,
or something you might be able to take by force…
That maybe you can pry open that portal’s door,
using a crowbar made of technology
and the hoist of your own petard...
You’re just… wrong.
As women,
we are an unsubtractable part of the equation.
We carry the Power required.
And we are the only ones who ever will.
And your pathetic, dangerous, narcissistic attempts
to break into something we are designed to do so perfectly…
they are futile, and only serve to show that you lack what is MOST required to do what we do:
Caring about that baby,
that child,
more than you care about your own life.
Your own desires.
Your own safety.
Your own looks.
Your own sleep.
Your own blood.
Your own oxygen.
Your own validation.
Your own confidence.
Your own sexual organs.
Your own identity.
A woman’s identity is inconsequential,
suspended entirely, in that moment.
In that moment,
there’s only ONE identity that matters.
And it’s being birthed.
The very fact that you desire this
means you don’t have what it takes.
You are insufficient.
Ineligible.
And, no matter how mad that makes you…
It’s an effortless Truth.
Womanhood means more than you can ever comprehend,
and you can’t even pretend to be something that you don’t understand.
You wouldn’t last a minute, standing in this space.
Living in this skin.
Walking in our reality.
And, trying to be this Portal??
Please.
You think you’re gaining ground, succeeding...
getting closer to the summit of our Mountain...
Honey, you’re not even at base camp.
You have already failed.
We know that you will keep trying.
We see your shallow “attempts.”
The further you take them,
the more harm you will do to yourselves.
But, if you take them too close to THIS line,
...you threaten harm to the souls that we are here to shelter.
And the Power that lives in Women
will not respond kindly to that threat.
Women will always protect children.
It’s what we do. It’s how we are built.
What we’re made for.
Destroy yourselves, tear yourselves to pieces trying to imitate us, if you insist on it.
But womanhood is not your costume,
and babies are not your accessories.
Our biology is sovereign, and powerful,
and goes thru more than you can possibly imagine
to bring children into this world.
You’re playing with a fire more powerful than you can ever imagine.
A power you are not built to contain, and not equipped to channel.
And trying to so will only result in your self destruction.
If you think you stand a chance at replacing us,
or replicating us
or relegating us
...you are in for a big disappointment.
So, be cautious, boys.
Nature is fierce, and She will not be pushed too far.
How do we know?
Because we are Mothers, too.
