An 8th grader noticed something the adults couldn't ignore.

School staff were alerted after a student reported that a substitute teacher appeared to be under the influence. When administrators confronted 47-year-old Melissa Martin, she reportedly admitted to using c0ke before arriving at school, saying she'd been awake all night after arguing with her boyfriend and was trying to stay awake.

As she was transported to a hospital, officers searched the classroom with a K9. The dog alerted to items Martin had left behind, and a later search of her belongings reportedly uncovered a small bag containing a white powder that field-tested positive for c0ke.

Investigators said Martin told them she had used the drug in her car before entering the school and denied consuming it inside the building.

She was later cited—not taken into custody at the hospital—and charged with c0ke possession and reckless endangerment after authorities alleged the substance had been left where students could have accessed it. She has entered a plea of not guilty, and the case remains pending.
