Yesterday, at the market, I ran into someone I recognized from my university days... but thankfully, she didn't recognize me.
Years ago, when I was still in the university, I desperately needed money to pay for an urgent school bill. I had called my dad and he said he could only raise the money in a week's time. The problem was that the deadline for the payment was only three days away.
I decided to borrow the money from my friend and coursemate, with the intention of paying her back when my father sent the money.
When I got to her house, she told me she didn't have the amount... but that her cousin (whom I knew) was coming over and she was sure her cousin would have it. So I waited.
When her cousin came, she was already in a bad mood. I hadn't even have the chance to ask for the money before she started venting about a particular girl who had been chasing her boyfriend for weeks.
The "girl" is the same woman I saw in the market yesterday.
The more my friend's cousin vented, the angrier she got... and my friend, instead of calming her down, kept adding fuel to fire instead.
Before I knew what was happening, they had both agreed to go to the girl's house to confront her... and against my better judgment, I agreed to go along. I wanted to show my support so that when I eventually got to ask her for the money, she would gladly give it to me.
The girl's lodge was not far from my friend's... so off we went, marching towards her lodge for a showdown.
On the way, my friend's cousin suddenly stopped by a short tree with low-hanging branches and started plucking canes. My friend immediately followed suit.
I paused for a moment wondering "What is going on here?". I thought we were supposed to be going for a confrontation... why were they suddenly"arming" themselves?
This was the point where I should have known this was a terrible idea, make an excuse and turn back. But I didn't. And in my defense, this was a time when my frontal lobe had not developed.
I waited while they plucked their canes (I didn't pluck any for myself), and when they were done, we continued on our journey.
When we got to the girl's lodge, I hung back just like an unwilling participant and watched as my friend and her cousin started banging on the girl's door, hurling insults, and shouting for her to come outside.
When the girl did come outside, every alarm bell in my head went off. This was the exact moment I knew we had made a very terrible decision.
Not only was the girl at least 6 ft 2 inches tall, but she was heavily built too. This girl was huge! Worse still, there were two of them! Someone Who looked like her (her sister most likely) came out behind her... She too was equally as tall and as heavily built as her sister.
I quietly started to fall back.
It seemed like the only sensible thing to do... considering we looked like minions and they looked like giants.
But my friend and her cousin... fueled by pride, adrenaline or a dangerous combination of both, along with what I can only describe as a fòòlish lapse in judgment, decided to charge at them.
No sooner had my friend's cousin lifted her cane up to strike, than the girl grabbed her hand with one hand, headbutted her and lifted her into the air with the other.
By the time I saw her legs dangling in the air, I had already retreated so far that my back was already touching the gate.
Meanwhile, my friend was already on the ground with the girl's sister on top of her... attempting to feed her with sand.
I took one final look at the scene, turned around and fled through the gate.
As a good friend, I didn't run straight home. I waited at a safe distance until they both staggered out to meet me, bruised and bleeding.
My friend was lucky... she only had a black eye and a bursted lip.
Her cousin was not so lucky.
As a good friend, I also accompanied them to the hospital...
HUGE fan of Bruno G
But this feels similar to how I felt when we signed Arteta…..
Love the player, long time admiration, but I can’t help but feel this would be a signing 2/3 years late
BREAKING: Arsenal sign Piero Hincapie permanently for £34.5m.
The 24 year old defender who was on loan from Bayer Leverkusen has signed a 5 year contract. 🚨
Ronaldo scored and the celebration gave me goosebumps.
Smiles all across.
Competition or not, Ronaldo has done too much for this sport to go down as some villain.
Take the World Cup qualifiers seriously, dem nor gree listen.
They’re now playing street football across Nigeria while their mates are in Mexico, Canada and USA.
The funniest thing about this Gyokeres-Alvarez swap deal nonsense is that Gyokeres will outscore Alvarez in Arsenal’s lone striker system, he will also outscore him in Atletico’s two striker system.
🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴 Tras clasificar a la siguiente ronda del mundial, todo el plantel de Noruega se sienta en el campo y empieza a remar junto con su afición en el estadio…simplemente maravilloso 🤩🤩🤩
I know @Arsenal needs more creative players in the middle but all this names being thrown around can't lace the boot of fully fit Odegaard. The way he's floating everywhere in the first half against Senegal.
