Exploring some owl pellets today to kick off our learning about habitats and food chains! I was so proud of how so many students stepped outside their comfort zones to examine and touch the owls' "leftovers". π
We are consolidating our math learning this week! We talked about how transformations like rotations and reflections can happen within visual patterns. This student used rotations AND a numerical pattern - zoom in to check out the numbers! Can you find the pattern rule?
We are grateful for our Earth! We have been patiently waiting for our seeds to germinate, and they have finally sprouted! Our plant observations begin as we see the plant life cycle in real time! Students are so excited to be nurturing plants of their choice. π±
Science lab day! Grade 3s examined some different soil samples to see the different particles that can be found in soil. We were surprised by how different types of soil can be so unique, and even found some crawly creatures that made their way to school from my garden! π
It has been a busy couple months in 3/4B-FI and 4/5B-FI! This week, the Grade 4/5s coded a variety of games, and they are sharing them with the 3/4s today! A great way to inspire others to try something new!
Ending a busy week with some patterning review on Knowledgehook! I love doing the game shows in partners - we have so much awesome math talk going on over here! Our brains can do amazing things when we work together and share our thinking!
Exploring number patterns in input/output tables today! We talked about operations happening inside a number machine and solving the mystery to find the rule or missing numbers. Love these visuals a few students made!
What a busy week! On Fun Friday, Grade 4/5 is reviewing place value and financial literacy with a "House Hunters" task, looking at real estate listings and ordering, comparing, and rounding the prices! We also reviewed the suffix -tion with a word scramble task.
Today (and every day) I want children and families from the 2SLGBTQIA community to feel safe, welcome, and included in schools.
You belong.
You have the right to exist and to take up space.
You are needed here.
Learning about how to gather and share information! We explored Wonderopolis today to learn about a topic of interest and share what we learned. So many interesting topics - everything from black holes to paper airplanes to liquid nitrogen!
Some Fun Friday math! We are reviewing place value by playing some "mystery number" games where we used clues to figure out which number is in which place. Lots of great teamwork and respectful math discussion!
We set some SMART goals this week! We are learning so much about growth mindset and how our brains work towards achieving goals and learning new skills. Just like exercising, when we practice a skill while working towards a goal, we build "muscle" in our brains! π§
We learned so much about our friends and our visible/invisible similarities and differences today! Grade 3/4 built note card towers, and each note card had to list one thing they have in common with their partner. What a great group of teammates! βοΈ
Today, we are learning all about FAILing! We discussed how making mistakes can actually help us build our understanding, and did a fun flexible thinking math task in partners to practice making mistakes, trying again, and encouraging each other!
What a great start to the year in Grades 3/4 and 4/5! Last week, we did lots of teamwork in our math tasks. We played the "1-100 Game" to practice good communication, and dusted off our graphing skills to show how members of our classes learn best. So proud of these learners! β€οΈ
