Amnesty International strongly condemns the chairman Kuje Area Council FCT Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo for threatening to chase out from the area anybody who will not join or vote for APC. Authoritatively saying that those who will not vote APC must leave Kuje area council is a call to violence and direct attack on freedom of association and liberty of persons.

No one has the right to make living in a place in Nigeria tied to joining or voting for one political party. The police and other security agencies must immediately halt this plan to use violence on people for their political choices.

The chairman Kuje Area Council FCT Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo is a danger to society and must be held to account for threatening violence on those who may not vote for
APC.

This plan to unleash violence on those who are not supporting APC in Kuje area council will have wider impact and will put lives at risk. People’s right to political choices must be respected and upheld.

Zuru: Another tribe in Northern Nigeria

Zuru proverb of the day highlights a traditional saying that reflects wisdom about character, patience, and the importance of actions over appearances. The proverb “The tree is known by the fruit it carries” comes from the Zuru people of Kebbi State in Northwestern Nigeria.

In traditional Zuru communities, trees were valued for what they produced. A tree could be tall, beautiful, and impressive, but its real usefulness was revealed by its fruit.

This proverb teaches that people should be judged by their actions rather than their appearance, promises, or social position. A person may speak beautifully or appear successful, but consistent behavior eventually reveals their true character.

Elders commonly use this saying when discussing leadership, marriage, friendship, and community responsibility. It reminds people to look beyond appearances before deciding who deserves their trust.

At a deeper level, the proverb reflects a broader African understanding that character is demonstrated through what a person contributes to others. Reputation is earned through repeated actions, not claimed through words.

The saying remains relevant today, especially in a world where people can carefully construct impressive images of themselves while their actual behavior tells a very different story.

From Monday, the top 40 winners of the last South East Maths Olympiad winners from Enugu will begin an intensive bootcamp unlike anything they have ever experienced.

They will build real drones from start to finish. They will learn how to dismantle and reassemble an entire car while gaining a deep understanding of how every system works. They will also receive hands-on training in advanced robotics and AI.

This will be a three-week intensive program in Enugu, designed to transform these brilliant young minds into a new generation of innovators with real-world, practical skills.

This is the blueprint of the education with relevance we are pushing in the South East.

In 2000, The New York Times reported that Pfizer had used Nigeria's 1996 meningitis crisis to carry out an unauthorised drug trial on children in Kano, resulting in the deaths of 11 of them.

▶️According to the newspaper's investigation, the pharmaceutical company tested its experimental drug, Trovan, on 200 children suffering from meningitis without obtaining informed consent from their parents.

▶️Many of the surviving children were left with complications associated with meningitis, including deafness, blindness, lameness, seizures and disorientation.

▶️One of those who died was a 10-year-old girl whom doctors reportedly continued treating with the experimental drug despite her failure to show early signs of improvement, contrary to established treatment protocols. She died three days after receiving her first doses.

▶️Pfizer maintained that it had obtained approval from the Nigerian government to conduct the trial, but was unable to produce signed consent forms from the patients' parents.

▶️At the time, Trovan had been approved for use in adults in the United States, but not in children.

This year's competition will now include both Mathematics and Science (optional), with a single registration covering both.

Our winners will represent the country at the International STEM Olympiad in Lisbon, Portugal, and the Singapore Maths Olympiad Finals in Singapore in 2027.

Following the competition, we will also rank the educational performance of the South Eastern states based on the average assessment results.

The entire South East is building remarkable academic momentum, and it is inspiring to watch.

We will broadcast the competition live on Afia TV, and I will also try to secure a live broadcast on Arise News.

It is now the biggest academic competition on the continent.

Remember, participation is completely free and is open to any child who lives in or attends school in the South East.
