Here's an update from Dhaka, Bangladesh by @AFP bureau chief Shafiqul Alam.

"1. Fresh violence has reportedly flared up in Dhaka's Mohammadpur and Badda. Police have used tear gas.

2. The Students Against Discrimination, the group behind the protests, have asked people to pray for the departed souls today.

3. BNP has called protests after 3pm today.

4. At least 32 people were killed yesterday, most hit by barrage of rubber bullets. Hundreds were injured, many hit by rubber bullets in their eyes. Most of the death were in Uttara where hospitals were overwhelmed.

5. Internet -- both Broadband wifi and mobile -- are still shut. People are gripped with uncertainty

6. Protests took place in dozens of district towns. Most saw clashes between protesters and police and ruling party student activists.

7. Dhaka's streets are eerily empty. This morning I went to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and along the way found only several motorcyles and rickshaws.

8. Some 280 injured were treated at DMCH and hundreds were treated in hospitals in Uttara.

9. Police have urged calm and said they have so far shown maximum restraint."
