What sucks about the Chappell/Ethel situation is that they have such good intentions, but keep barely missing the point. You can be theoretically correct in a philosophical vacuum while still wrong when it comes to strategizing in our political reality. Chappell made a 100% valid statement, but she pushed it at a time where it becomes actively harmful to the people she wants to help. “Both-siding” and leftist infighting AT ELECTION TIME are conservative psy-ops, but SO IS settling for moderate agendas… AFTER those elections are won.
It sucks that two people who genuinely seem to care are at the center of this vitriol, but we ALL have to learn that having the right idea isn’t enough. To make those ideas a reality, there are times to make noise and times to shut the fuck up—and this is their learning moment.
Are Chappell and Ethel wrong for doing this now? Yes. Would they be wrong doing this next year? No! And I hope they do!
Everything about this sucks, talking about them like this sucks, our system sucks, and I just hope they take care of themselves during this process. But If we want to hold Kamala accountable, we HAVE to get her elected. I don’t care if you’re “pissed off” or want a mythical 3rd option—we all fucking do. But when there are even millions more lives at risk on top of the ones already in danger, you don’t treat “fuck around and find out” as a challenge. That is the point.
