@get_inflow As a kid I had a routine w/school and hobbies and the majority of life admin ‘cooking, cleaning, chores etc’ were done for me or I was supervised into doing. As an adult, everything is left up to me so things get forgotten/put off and it’s just a constant worry
@spicebagsupreme I would love to live alone but looks like I’m in house shares for the long haul while I get less and less people to share with as they couple up
@mags_mclaugh I loved waitressing but 10-12 hour days 6 days a week for minimum wage didn’t give a great quality of life in London. Even if you managed to keep a personal life outside work
@QueerandME I had a debate w/ a male friend who said ‘I’m a short guy, I get scared of being mugged too’ & I was like ‘I’m scared of getting raped, pregnant, given a non-treatable STI, murder, sex trafficking, disappearing without a trace’. That’s my worse case scenario
@WillMartinSmith It often feels like once it’s out of the news cycle men just forget or go back to normal because ultimately on a day to day basis it doesn’t really affect them
I’m not saying this is you but it’s a frustrating cycle
@WillMartinSmith At each heavily publicised news story in the last few years (MeToo, Grace Millane’s death) women recount their traumatic experiences. Men are surprised & regretful but then nothing changes
@BlackedHatGuy @spvcecadets @Mimmmbb You don’t need to pretend you know them (as a partner or brother) if that feels weird. I’d appreciate a visible ‘are you okay?’. Sometimes, like on the tube, just making eye contact and mouthing it/a look reassures me that someone can support if needed
Great that some men are finally catching up but I want to know what they are going to do to support women because if it’s just ‘realising how privileged they are’ it really means nothing in the grand scheme of things
Actually frustrating how so many men are currently having the realisation of their privilege and what it affords them.
If it took you until you’re nearly 40 to learn what most women learnt whilst they were in single figures I don’t know what to say
I first remember learning this when I was 9 watching the disappearances of 10 year old Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells play out.
The message has been reinforced so many times over the years
@Davidfzc@harriet1marsden @Botanygeek So yeah, I guess it’s great that he’s got more awareness now but what’s he going to help the situation/support women? Cause if it’s ‘wow, good for me I guess and carrying on without a second thought’ and it really contributes nothing
@Davidfzc@harriet1marsden @Botanygeek Yes but it’s taken him til he’s 39 (and the disappearance and possible murder of a woman) to realise that. This is something that women routinely say they learnt when they were as a child. To be that oblivious is to be wilfully ignorant
