I first had him rinse mouth with water, to avoid false positive. I swabbed his throat and tonsil area, then deep nasal swab in each nostril for 10 seconds. I find it more comfortable if swab is done straight like the diagram below, don't go too deep, if u get resistance, stop.
Lots of people symptomatic and testing negative with rapid tests, so here's my experience (anecdotal). Regular patient, with lung issues, calls to say he's symptomatic and testing negative with rapids. I offered to perform test on him in the pharmacy.
Not everyone knows how to deal with symptoms, lots of ppl google it and they always "have cancer or a heart attack". So give ppl a break, everyone's on edge. If you're in doubt about the urgency, call your dr. or pharmacist before heading to emerg.
For all the people commenting and saying "why go to emerg. if you have a sore throat". This is the 2nd patient this week with a throat so sore they can barely swallow their own saliva, both went to emerg. both had covid (one feeling better today).
Patient waited in emerg. for 6 hours, she had a sore throat. They prescribed her Naproxen and sent her home, I decided to test her before dispensing.
Save healthcare resources, do a throat swab followed by a nose swab, you'll see this and isolate.
