College vs Trade School

I had a HVAC technician at my house today performing my annual service. We got into a good conversation about his career path. He said he debated going to college for computer engineering/science but didn’t have the financial means to do so. He got a job as a HVAC tech right out of high school and hasn’t looked back. A few of his points really stuck with me:

1) He said his trade has a severe talent shortage. For every six guys retiring, only one new tech is joining the field. Crazy!
2) He said HVAC systems are turning into computers so his skillset is especially in demand and the pay is excellent.
3) He started his career with zero debt whereas his friends already have school loans the size of small mortgage payments.

Just something to think about as we give the next generation career advice…

We no that won’t be okay. But it’s okay if football does it for spring ball with those kids out for track.

Districts or schools that remove students from physical education, music, Arts, or other classes to remediate them in other areas, have no idea of the immediate and long term damage they are doing to these students. These may be classes that help them love school.
