Alberta's cowboy culture is kitsch and most Albertans know it on some level even if they won't say so. Downtown condo guys and subdivision dads pulling on a Stetson to drive a truck they've never put to actual work, muttering about God's country and eastern soft hands. It's a costume. There's no inheritance behind it.
What makes it worse is it isn't even a real import. It's not Texan. It's what Albertans think Texan looks like, assembled from country radio and two decades of Republican political aesthetics bleeding north across the border. A copy of a copy. The prairie frontier identity was always more Crown and more British than anything, ranching culture in the foothills had more in common with the Anglo-Canadian gentry than with Houston, and somewhere along the way that got quietly swapped out for a fictionalized version of American rugged individualism that plays much better for certain interests.
That swap didn't happen by accident. A population that has organized its identity around an imagined American archetype is a population that's already halfway to accepting Americanization as natural. It has already adopted the framing. The enemy is Ottawa, not the continental integration project digesting both. The based 'Bertan politician who makes a career of Laurentian elite bashing while nodding through every free trade extension and regulatory harmonization isn't a rebel. She's a more convenient version of the same class she performs outrage against, because she comes with a crowd that cheers through its own absorption.
Strip the branding and the Laurentian liberal and the prairie populist are running the same play. One wears a suit and talks about diversity. One wears boots and talks about freedom. Continental capital finds both perfectly acceptable.
Alberta's actual dissident tradition, what's underneath the LARPing if you bother to look, points somewhere else entirely. A rooted Crown constitutionalism. Real provincial sovereignty grounded in compact theory, not sovereignty as a rhetorical wedge to soften the next round of integration. The grievances are legitimate. The costume they've been dressed in is the problem, because that costume was always going to lead here.
Murdering a Canadian Is What a “Good Sikh” Will Do?
According to this World Sikh Organization executive, Harman Singh Kandola, assassinating a Canadian government official is “standing up for the truth,” and “that’s exactly what a good Sikh will do.”
He claims that Canadians view Mewa Singh as a “martyr” for murdering an immigration official, William C. Hopkinson, inside a courthouse. He goes on to say that Mewa Singh has always been an inspiration to him and is what guides him.
“I think this is completely disgusting and shameful,” protested Bob Rai, a former Sikh who left the religion after it was hijacked by the World Sikh Organization, which he views as an extremist cult pushing its ideology into the political uniparty.
Do YOU consider Mewa Singh, a convicted murderer, a hero?

In Canada, while majority of #Sikhs are peaceful, law-abiding, & contribute positively to society, a small section of community and organizations, as part of their political machinations, are spreading separatist propaganda — similar to how some Islamist groups have influenced politics & society in the #UK.
These fringe #Khalistani groups use rallies, community platforms, and even political connections to promote their agenda under the banner of “#Khalistan.” Canadian authorities have flagged some of these groups as national security challenge.
As a Canadian, my question is: why don’t mainstream Sikh voices—those who don’t believe in this ideology—speak up more clearly against it?
By remaining silent, there’s a growing risk that ordinary Sikhs may unfairly be viewed as sympathizers, which would only harm their reputation and the values of #Sikhism itself.
Canada must ensure that freedom of expression is not exploited for extremist agendas, and that the actions of a few do not define an entire community.

In Ontario—but actually in the USA—Jashanpreet Singh, an unlicensed illegal immigrant, was caught on dash cam cooking curry at 90 mph before a California crash that killed 3. Are roads in the 🇺🇸 or 🇨🇦 really safe?

Illegal Immigrant Jashanpreet Singh Arrested in Fatal I-10 DUI Crash
According to the California Highway Patrol, 21-year-old Jashanpreet Singh, the driver of a semi-truck, was arrested following a deadly eight-vehicle crash on the westbound I‑10 freeway in Ontario, California, on October 21, 2025. Authorities say Singh failed to brake as traffic slowed, triggering a chain-reaction collision that claimed the lives of three people and injured several others.
Singh is currently in San Bernardino County custody on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury, and is being held without bail pending formal charges. Federal officials report that Singh entered the U.S. illegally in March 2022, after being encountered by Border Patrol and released pending immigration proceedings.
The victims of the crash have not yet been publicly identified, and investigators continue to examine driver impairment, trucking compliance, and Singh’s immigration status.
Separately, a U.S. case involving Harjinder Singh highlights troubling patterns in fatal truck crashes. Instead of focusing on accountability, groups such as Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) and its leader Gurpatwant Singh #Pannun have intervened, promoting their #Khalistan agenda. These groups are reportedly using the movement’s banner to facilitate human trafficking & other illegal activities.
#SFJ is lobbying for protected status for Sikh truck drivers, a move that experts warn could unintentionally shield criminal recruitment networks. This issue is not about religion or ethnicity, but about the exploitation of vulnerable migrants and the urgent need for stronger oversight in the trucking industry.
