O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) has the kind of personality that almost feels impossible to replicate. The Coens mixing Homer’s Odyssey with Southern gothic comedy should not work this smoothly, yet the entire movie just glides along effortlessly.

To Mr. House, Cooper Howard is the unknown and that fascinates him. He knows everything except for how Cooper plays into the end of the world. Everything else is mathematical, predictable. The end of the world is a puzzle that Mr. House is trying to solve and Cooper is one of the missing pieces. Justin Theroux and Walton Goggins capture this back and forth so flawlessly- the struggle to understand and have complete control vs becoming superbly unaware that your choices in the world are completely out of your hands. Fallout really captures the opposing mindsets in these pre-war scenes and Walton and Justin are superb.
