At #FfD4 in Seville, the message from activists, movements, and campaigners is loud and clear -
You can try to silence us, but we’re not going anywhere.
The people, united, will never be defeated ✊ 🔥
🧵 Our Policy and Campaigns Manager @tbymrry is in The Times today arguing that debt write-off is essential for tackling the council tax crisis gripping the UK.

🌍 It’s the global day of action for economic justice!
We joined 20+ UK orgs on London’s Southbank with a giant 🧱 Jenga tower to show how the system is stacked against the global south.
As world leaders meet in Seville, it's important that we #CancelDebtChooseHope#FfD4People
Last night, we joined thousands in Seville on the eve of #FFD4, to demand #debtjustice.
The UK & other rich countries have blocked demands from the global south for urgent action on the debt crisis.
Shame on them.

LOOK: Members of various economic, finance, and climate justice organizations, led by the Asian Peoples’ Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD), hold a protest march along Kalaw Avenue in Manila on Friday, June 27.
The demonstration calls for urgent and sweeping reforms to the global financial and economic systems ahead of the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4), set to take place in Sevilla, Spain, from June 30 to July 3.
The march is part of a coordinated wave of protests across Asia, Europe, Africa, North America, and Latin America, amplifying the call for fairer financing for the Global South.

Tomorrow is UN #FFD4 summit, we joined 20+ orgs in London to say #CancelDebtChooseHope
54 countries in debt crisis but rich countries are BLOCKING solutions. No one should have to play Jenga with their economy - choosing between public services or debt payments. #SystemChangeNow
The UK says tackling Global South debt is a key development priority
But at #FFD4, it blocked progress and watered down Global South demands for debt justice
“They should hang their heads in shame.” @hidschow

We're raising funds for #BanTheBailiffs campaign. Councils are sending in bailiffs despite there being no evidence they increase collection rates.

Debt swaps are a distraction from actual debt restructuring to tackle the global south debt crisis. New evidence from @debtjustice shows that debt swaps deliver minimal debt reduction, are opaque, costly and risk imposing conservation models that ignore local needs #CancelTheDebt
1/ 🚨 New research out today 🚨
Debt-for-nature swaps do not meaningfully reduce debt levels‼️
They cut countries' debt levels by 7x less than debt restructurings

Bailiffs expose how flawed the debt system is. Once you're in debt, the debt system keeps you trapped. Whether you're in debt or not, no one deserves to be humiliated and bullied and then get charged for it. Take action https://t.co/RbYpwXf123 #BanTheBailiffs
4.4 million people have fallen behind on council tax as rising costs push more households into crisis. Instead of offering support, councils are sending in bailiffs – a punitive, outdated tactic based on intimation that only deepens hardship #BanTheBailiffs
We're in the @theipaper!
The UK must stop using bailiffs to collect council tax debt. It’s completely unjust that the government are using a form of legalized harassment to try and collect debts.

South Sudan is facing hunger, disease, floods - & now it must find $657 million to pay creditors who sued in the UK High Court, almost half its government's revenue.
UK must pass a law to stop private creditors from suing countries to make big profits.
