What does not work: 'From a young age, I have been fascinated by...'

What works:

A specific sentence from a specific moment. 'The afternoon the Rivers State General Hospital generator failed during a C-section, I decided I was going to redesign hospital power resilience.'

Then one paragraph on the research question that follows from that moment.

Then one paragraph on why this program and this advisor are the only people who can help you answer it.

Then one paragraph on what you will do with the answer.

Four short pieces. One obvious decision. Admitted.

Asked not to retire, told he wont play, then told he would play 30 mins, asked to warm up and made to sit on the bench, said an apology will be issue, instead mocked him. Why?
