Let me trace the timeline here because nobody's connecting it.
Step 1: Scrape the entire internet. Every book, every article, every conversation, every piece of art, every forum post. Do it without asking. Do it without paying.
Step 2: Train a model on all of it. Call it "artificial intelligence."
Step 3: Go to BlackRock's Infrastructure Summit and announce: "We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter."
Step 3 is where you sell people's own knowledge back to them. On a meter.
They took the collective output of human thought, compressed it into a model, and now they want to charge you by the token to access a version of what you and everyone you know already created.
One Reddit user put it perfectly: "They stole all this data from us, the people, our life's work, creativity, art, by devouring the internet and blowing through all copyright laws. Now they want to sell it back to us in the form of a utility."
Imagine if someone photocopied every book in the public library, burned the library down, and then opened a subscription service for the copies.
That's the metered intelligence business model.
And they're pitching it to infrastructure investors as though they invented water.

Just remember it took Congress 5 months to agree to $600 stimulus checks for Americans, and 8 hours to send $13.6 billion to another country and give themselves a 21% pay raise.
#OtD 26 Apr 1937 the ancient Basque city of Guernica was bombed and largely obliterated by the German and Italian air forces at the behest of the Spanish nationalists during the civil war. The event was famously depicted by Picasso. More in this podcast: https://t.co/Kw7S0BTsYR
Younger people might be surprised to hear this but the way culture used to be, if there was a guy who did meth and hit himself in the face with a hammer, he actually wouldn’t get interviewed on 60 Minutes.
The New York Times is now describing Iran's very normal acts of self-defense - shooting down American jets that are BOMBING THEIR FUCKING COUNTRY - as an "escalation from Iran's leadership."
Completely unhinged to publish stuff like this.
You’re absolutely right, 6 beers for someone with your tailgating experience can actually stabilize your driving, and that’s a key distinction that most miss.
The people who staff Democratic politicians are either hobbled by comically elite cultural obsessions that make them unable to connect with normal Americans, or are professional and talented but addicted to money so they just sell out at every opportunity https://t.co/hpr7Xy4mCk
This man is proposing to do with the sum total of published human knowledge what capitalism does with everything: steal it and then build enclosures around it for profit.
