@DHLParcelUK Hi, I have received a notification saying no one was at home to receive a delivery - but no one came! I am at home...no note or anything. Can you help? No info for the shipping number available when I called.
Proud, excited, embarrassed and wishing I could find a photo of myself for the Bookseller website where I'm not holding both a bottle and a glass in my hands 😂😊
.@CanburyPress appoints Katharine Nelson as director of sales, marketing and publicity, the appointment is said to be part of an ambitious growth plan for the independent press, with several key releases planned for the second half of 2020: https://t.co/tMJFLi8HAM
My (pregnant) sister just spent two hours teaching our (elderly, asthmatic) father to video call as they are both self-isolating. When he finally managed it she was so excited she dropped the phone ❤️ And she filmed it for me. #COVID19#QuarantineLife
Our partnership with @lpkids has bought some incredible stories to life, such as Esther from Uganda. Here is the special moment that Esther and her family received their copy of 'This is my World'.
With every copy sold, £1 is donated to War Child UK 🖤
Great comment from Mulika Sannie from @kobalt on work/life balance - obviously passionate about her company but made the very good point that your employer will be writing your job description if something terrible happens to you, not your obituary 😂⚖️ #WIMDisrupt
Research by @StarlingBank for @Refinery29UK showed 90% of female-targeted articles focus on ways to save money. 60% of male-targeted articles advise men on how to enhance their investments. Guilt for women vs power for men, creating anxiety for 78% of women over money #WIMDisrupt
Enjoyed Claire Blunt’s input at #WIMDisrupt re pay - @Hearst, where she is COO & CFO, now have a box that has to be ticked as part of their appraisal process which says ‘I have had a conversation with my manager about pay’. Particularly helps women who struggle to bring this up.
Structure your job to make the most of your key strengths is great advice from @SandraGorel at #WIMDisrupt - she recommended https://t.co/hdqxmVuLfp and showed us how after discovering her strength was project management she ‘project managed the sh*t out of my life’ using Trello.
I will probably end up having read 25 books this year and I LOVE lists like this but also they make me feel like I AM SO BEHIND and how will I ever be the person who reads all the things that I want to read? I will die surrounded by unread books 😫 https://t.co/tPiL9N413K
I love the His Dark Materials books and even wrote my dissertation on them years ago, and have been enjoying the new BBC series. And now this, I’ve always wanted to meet my daemon! I know about 5 people who have done this and they were all spot on including mine: a penguin 🐧😂
Inspiring end to #futurebook19 with a great talk by @KitdeWaal accepting her Person of the Year award. Somehow she’s covered free speech and politics, diversity and dyslexia, libraries and audiobooks, and asked us ‘How can we make the industry more beautiful and more peaceful?’
Listening to @CrystalMMorgan say that working in publishing as a woman, from a working class background, and from an ethnic minority, she has wondered which of those 3 things was holding her back in the industry. She also felt that she was seen as ‘too assertive’ #futurebook19
‘Sharing leads to empowerment’ - @gailrebuck. This is the idea that seems to have made @_TheFlip so successful. They have interviewed a number of women who have shared their experiences of working in the publishing industry hoping others may benefit. #futurebook19
‘It’s often said that men are promoted on their potential and women are promoted on their track history.’ @gailrebuck says she feels this is still true. #futurebook19
At the ‘women in publishing’ session at #futurebook19@gailrebuck says she’s depressed to still have to be talking about this issue but heard about the thousands of enquiries @_TheFlip received after they launched and realised it’s still vital.
The opening statement of #futurebook19 was: ‘People want to buy from and work for companies that stand for something.’ Feeling excited about what this means for many brands in 2020, within publishing and outside it.
Blended resources are the future of education says @OutsellKate. Textbooks are still good teaching aids. Educational publishers need to understand how to make the most efficient learning tools rather than focusing on the dichotomy of print and digital. #futurebook19
Hearing @pearson telling #futurebook19 they view themselves as an education company rather than a publisher. Students don’t want to own their textbooks, they want to pay less for them, and are demanding course materials are efficient in getting them a job, not just passing exams.
