Michael Bogle, 38, a registered sex offender, has been jailed for 8 months after committing 11 offences in the 5 days following his early release from prison. Bogle stole more than £200 worth of detergent from supermarkets in north-west London, beginning just 24 hours after his release from HMP Wandsworth on 1 October.

He had served just 78 days of his previous sentence and publicly praised Labour's early release scheme, declaring: “Keep the early release going. It's good.”

Bogle, who claimed to have around 100 previous convictions, was arrested on Monday and sentenced on Tuesday after pleading guilty.

Met Police Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist described the speed of his reoffending as “astonishing”.
