@bookowl I got a personalized call from the vet to schedule Harvey’s vaccines…still having to call around, sort through contradictory info on availability and coverage for the 4 humans in the house…
@PaulettRobert I think they just grew up, and became pandemic parents and caretakers of aging parents and just have all their cooly ironic junk clothes in storage, waiting to bust out when their charges are grown and gone. I may be projecting a bit here…
@PaulettRobert I have taken to yelling “I’m from Saint Louis!” everytime I do a u-turn now…the only time I claim allegiance to the area. Seriously, I could write a long book on the traffic incidents I saw from various 2nd floor classroom windows in STL.
@HistoryInShort@jeffmanuel The jist of the Olive Garden debate here was basically someone on village board “It looks so boring.” Olive G builder, “No prob, for 5% more we’ll do the upgraded snazzy version.” I think midwesterners need to start demanding more.
@jeffmanuel In your absence we have acquired both an Olive Garden and a Clementine's (small boutique local-chain) ice cream parlor. Both of these are probably considered completely unnecessary by many. I suspect the dog park expansion has met bi-partisan approval.
@HistoryInShort@jeffmanuel In what ways is VT unique? I suspect modifications to chains are more possible than most people believe, it is just that many city councils/local zoning orgs don't request them.
@PaulettRobert This was also my exact thought about every struggling K12 I’ve worked in. If teacher:student ratio, course offerings,extra-curriculars, support services (though under-resourced students typically deserve better services based in test score mandates as a middle income district…
@PaulettRobert my thoughts exactly, since 2016 I have been grumbling about why you don’t encourage rednecks to be on student council, homecoming, prom committee etc, senior prank day sure-the big pick-ups but they play BEST left to themselves in the parking lot…
Why not just buy an off-site Hogwarts? Interested students can apply and truly have the best-of-both worlds, small, personal exp with transferability and resources of bigger school. It would extend the reach of state land-grants further afield.
Summer 2023 twitter project: tweet every public policy/education/urban, rural, suburban design planning idea i think of while driving around/across the midwest.
Hope to free my mind and release my copilot from listening to my rants:
11. Big idea, but hear me out. As small liberal arts colleges comtinue to close, esp in Appalachia and mid-west, state Unis, esp R1s should buy/merge with them. So many R1s are trying to create the small liberal arts experience on huge campuses.
On one occasion I had my own 6 yo little man with me. The older couple were at the sinks when we raced in, as 6yos do, and we had a comical exchange of looks. Could boomers please push for equal and open accessfacilities? Y’all will need them if you want to keep cruising highways
Report from the b-room culture war trenches…was met not once, not twice, but three times with adult, presumably cis, mixed gender couples in womens rooms in mid-American gas stations and rest stops. They all appeared to be assisting their boomer+ partners.
