The Pat O’Leary Escape Line was run by Belgian doctor Albert Guérisse under the alias Pat O’Leary.
This MI9 network helped over 600 Allied airmen escape occupied France via the Pyrenees.
Betrayed and sent to concentration camps, Guérisse survived multiple tortures.
His line became a lifeline for evaders across southern Europe.
Tonight, please remember his bravery and commitment:
A message to @England. 💙
At Wembley, we were proud to walk beside you. 22 people living with dementia, each with a story that deserved to be seen and heard.
Thank you for taking those steps, sharing that moment with us, and recognising how powerful football can be. It has the ability to bring people together, to build understanding, and to shine a light on those affected by dementia.
Every day, people living with dementia face challenges that often go unseen. But on that pitch, they stood tall, and you stood with them.
As you head to the World Cup, remember this: you carry more than just a nation’s hopes. You carry a whole community. Families, friends, and millions of people whose lives have been touched by dementia.
Play with pride, with heart, and for every person living with dementia, and everyone beside them.
From Alzheimer's Society, the 22 mascots, and the millions affected by dementia, thank you and good luck. We're proud of you.
