The SAVE Act, also known as the SAVE America Act, would require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship—like a passport or birth certificate plus photo ID—to register to vote in federal elections. It also mandates photo ID to cast ballots and gives the Department of Homeland Security access to state voter rolls for reviews. Democrats oppose it mainly because they see it as voter suppression. This reasoning is of course frivolous. Anyone with the slightest ability to understand can get the required information together so they can vote.
