My attempt at painting Morennyi rock glacier in Kazakhstan on our fieldwork this summer! (I immediately regretted trying to paint so many rocks and never want to do it again) #BSGAC24
Stepping outside the science world at COP in Baku has challenged me to think about how we communicate research - it's really hard! I've learnt at lot from watching @ICCInet and talking to people from all over the world making positive things happen and this makes me hopeful! π
"We are seeing changes across all aspects of the cryosphere, including glaciers, permafrost, and snow."
From high mountain glaciers to meltwater flowing in the darkness beneath polar ice sheets, four young researchers explained why ambitious climate action is needed today #COP29
After arriving into Baku last night, I woke up this morning to this stunning view! Very excited to be volunteering with @ICCInet at the COP Cryosphere Pavillion this week!
Many congratulations to @huynh_carla and @HimalElla, the first recipients of the IGS EGG Conference Grant!! πβοΈ
Next call for applications will be advertised in the summer, please keep an eye out on Cryolist, the EGG mailing list and on @egg_igs@igsoc#igsoc#ecr#grant
The NVP International Summer School is open! An interdisciplinary Arctic event, discussing climate change, geopolitics, sustainability and more.

Our latest Guardian documentary, Bhutan Mountain Man is out now.
Bhutan's glaciologist is the only person authorised to climb the country's sacred Himalayas.
Through rare video diaries, the film asks 'who is responsible for climate change?'
I had a really great few days at the @ScotSAGES research communication workshop! Here's a little video of the stunning train journey back from Oban in the snow.
OK #Science twitter - do your thing! We have written an open letter to Conservatives strongly opposing 'kicking woke ideology out of science' rhetoric & show they do not represent science. Please distribute widely! Screen readable text + signature form at https://t.co/H7rNzb0wGh
Beautiful views from Gorodetsky rock glacier today, I was amazed to see so many flowers growing on top of these spectacular landforms! A sight you don't get on your normal glaciers!
Back in Scotland after an incredible 10 days in #Svalbard with the NVP Global Arctic summer school!
It has been inspiring to work with researchers from across so many fields of polar reseach to discuss the linkages between the Arctic and the Third Pole.

The world's ice is melting rapidly as the climate gets hotter. It can feel really distant. But scientists are finding it's having unexpected effects that reach thousands of miles.
Today, @NPR's climate desk is launching a series- starting with a QUIZ 1/

Finally handed in my master's dissertation looking at rock glacier flow in the Southern Alps of New Zealand! So here's a picture of my favourite rock glacier :)
I've had an incredible month (as you can see by the massive smile on my face) with my first ever glaciology fieldwork in Greenland and my first conference #IGSBB22. I have learnt so much and this has been the most amazing end to my year as a PAC student in Sheffield
I feel like this picture sums up the contrasting attitudes towards the environment in the Peak District. In the foreground native tree planting by our local climate action group and behind it a field that has been sprayed with weed killer decimating everything in it.
Excellent but shocking documentary about the state of our rivers! Been pulling Himalayan Balsam up from the upper catchment of the Dane this weekend, think we spotted some behind George in the video at the start!
