Sivsagar, Jorhat & Charaideo districts are witnessing unprecedented flooding following the cloudburst upstream, with water levels unseen in over half a century. We urge all affected families to cooperate with the authorities and move to safer locations when advised.
The civilian defense department employees and volunteers of Sivasagar district were engaged in rescue operations for flood-affected people in various areas of the Nazira sub-district from 19-07-2026 to today, 20-07-2026.

In Karbi Anglong's Howraghat as well, the cloudburst has resulted in inundation of large areas.

📢Update on Damages to protective measures in Jorhat
Due to sudden and exceptionally high flood discharge and resultant hydraulic stress due to cloudburst in the region, 8 damages occured to embankments in Jorhat region.
Immediate measures have been put in place to arrest the damages till flood waters recede including bamboo bandalling, bamboo pallasiding, boiling works using EC bags, etc.
Our teams are on the ground to monitor the situation and reinforce our water and erosion defenses till the time flood recedes and permanent measures can be adopted.

Extensive multi-agency efforts are underway to rescue those stranded in #AssamFloods due to the unfortunate cloud burst in the region.
@IAF_MCC choppers have been pressed into service and are assisting civil authorities in relief and rehabilitation works.

Medical teams have been deployed across all flood-affected areas to ensure timely health screening of vulnerable groups, uninterrupted availability of medicines and effective measures to prevent any outbreak of disease.
I have directed the Health Department to remain on the highest state of alert and ensure adequate stocks of all medicines and other essential medical supplies at all times.

As rains continue and water levels are rising, we are reinforcing our efforts to shift people to safer places and provide them with all necessary support.
We have adopted a whole-of-Govt approach to deal with the current flood situation in large parts of Upper Assam.
Due to unprecedented rainfall, Jaji, Dikhow and Dichang rivers are flowing above the danger level resulting in flooding in Jorhat, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Dibrugarh and nearby districts.
Teams on ground are adopting all measures to fortify embankments, put additional defensive layers using sandbags, controlled piping etc to safeguard lives and property.
The safety of people is our utmost priority and I am personally monitoring the situation to ensure that all required relief and rehabilitation efforts are reaching them on time.
