इस पुस्तक का लिखा जाना, मेरे लिए एक भावनात्मक संतुष्टि व उपलब्धि का विषय है।

मेरे दिवंगत पिता श्री कृष्णवल्लभजी पौराणिक (1929-2016) ने जीवन के अंतिम 15 वर्ष पार्किन्सन रोग के साथ गुजारे।

इस पुस्तक में मेरी दोहरी भूमिका है। एक न्यूरोलॉजिस्ट लेखक और एक पुत्र की। पापा के पार्किन्सन रोग के साथ मेरे अनुभवों को बीच बीच में शामिल किया गया है। एक चिकित्सक शिक्षक और एक पुत्र दोनों बारी-बारी से अपनी बात अलग-अलग तरीके व अलग-अलग दृष्टिकोण से कहते हैं।

आशा है कि वैज्ञानिक और व्यक्तिगत का यह मेल रोग के बारे में न केवल ज्ञान समझ बल्कि संवेदना– सहानुभूति को भी बढ़ावा देगा।

हिन्दी भाषा में ऐसे प्रयास कम हैं। मेरा दृढ़ विश्वास रहा है कि हिन्दी व भारतीय भाषाओं में वैज्ञानिक तथ्यों को अभिव्यक्त करने की बृहत व प्रांजल क्षमता है। उसका दोहन और विकास नहीं हुआ है।

शर्मनाक हालत है। न माँगने वाले हैं, न प्रदान करने वाले। कौन पहले आए?

मैंने एक प्रदायक के रूप में शुरूआत करने की कोशिश की है। मैं नहीं जानता कि यह रचना कितनी उपयोगी होगी तथा चाहत को बढ़ाने में उत्प्रेरक का काम करेगी या नहीं। चाहे जो हो, मैंने तो अपनी ओर से आहुति डाली है।
