तो मायका उनके लिए
पहले से अधिक अपना हो जाता है।

विदा लड़के भी होते हैं,
पिता उन्हें जाते हुए
छाती से नहीं लगाते,
उनके जाने पर
शहनाइयाँ नहीं बजती हैं,
माँ बाप का पाँव छू के
वे चुपचाप निकल आते हैं घर से,
कोई छोड़ने नहीं आता ,
ना साथ कोई विदा कराने
आता है।

ट्रेन की खिड़की पर
एक एक कर के गिरती बूँदों
को गिनते हुए वो निकल आते हैं,
और भर आयी आँखों
को सिगरेट के ���ुएँ के
आँसुओं में छिपा लेते हैं।

वो घर से निकल के इंसानों के
ऐसे जंगल में पहुँचते हैं,
जहाँ
और लड़कों के पसीनों
में गुँथ के वो नाईट ड्यूटी से
लौट के सो जाते हैं,
घर में
करेले की सब्ज़ी ना खाने वाले
लड़के,
कान में सीसे की तरह,
कहीं ‘अबे बिहारी’ तो कहीं ‘नार्थी’
सुन कर अनसुना कर देते हैं।

लड़के
बुजुर्ग हो जाते हैं
चंद ही महीनों में,
और घर में
पारे की तरह उफनने वाला खून,
ढीठ हो कर ठंडा हो जाता है,
धक्के खाते हुए,
हर महीने,
सौ पचास बचा लेते हैं लड़के
क्यों कि पिता जब पूछते है
‘तनख़्वाह आ गई’
तो यह जिज्ञासा नहीं
उत्तरदायित्व का अनकहा बोध होता है,
जिसके पीछे पिता की खाँसी
और माँ के सिलबट्टे पर लोढ़ा
घिसने की आवाज़ होती है,
बहन की डोली के कहारों
की नेपथ्य में गूंजते स्वर होते हैं,
और जब पीठ छिल के
लहुलुहान होती है,
आत्मा छिल के मृतप्राय
तब वो छत की और देख
अपने जीवन के वो सोलह वर्ष
याद करते हैं
जब वे राजा बेटा हुआ करते थे,
और
छुट्टियों में घर जा के
पिता को ‘पणाम’ कह के अलग
खड़े हो जाते हैं,
और माँ के हाथों में
पसीने से सने नोट देते हैं,
तो वो समझ जाते हैं,
उनके जीवन से
परिवार के प्रियों के
आलिंगन की आयु समाप्त हो चुकी है,
और इसके आगे
परिवार में उनका स्थान सिर्फ़
पर्वो, पैसों और अंत में
धार्मिक संस्कारों तक सीमित रह जाता है,
लड़कियाँ लड़कियाँ रहती हैं,
लड़का मर्द हो जाता है,
और रोने और हँसने दोनो��� का ही अधिकार त्याग देता है,
और एक दिन कपाल क्रिया में
लाठी मार कर
अपने सोलह साल की आयु में
छूट गये आलिंगनों की
आशाओं को भी राख में दाब कर
बाप बन के घर लौट आता है,
और अकेले में ही रो लेता है।
