Creating a harmonized hippocampal subfield segmentation method for MRI. No longer active on X. Please follow hipposubfields on bsky or visit our LinkedIn page.
We anticipate that our paper on quality control (QC) will be an incredibly helpful resource for those of you doing any type of MRI segmentation work. For those doing hippocampal subfield work, we cover common segmentation errors and offer practical guidance on the topic of QC.
We aimed to provide researchers w/ options to maximally retain reliable & valid data to support inferences; & work toward a standard of reporting to facilitate comparisons between studies. We are grateful to all co-authors & those who contributed their time on the QC survey.✨
We are thrilled to finally share our newest paper led by @kelseylcanada & @negar_mazloum, with senior authors @rosanna_olsen & @DrAnaDaugherty! We provide guidance on quality control and reporting practices for hippocampal subfields. 🫶🏻🧠 Link: https://t.co/xzqVJwsxzm

We have an open postdoc position in my group @DZNE_de - If you are passionate about neuroimaging, memory, digital cognitive markers and understanding cognitive impairment with its underlying brain dysfunction in early stages of AD, please apply here: https://t.co/TxL9mPjJSA
Hi HSGers!
We are developing the automated atlas set for the harmonized protocol. Our goal is a representative atlas and we need your help! 🌍🧠
Additional scans from middle-aged adults, children & patient cases are needed. Please see link for more info!

We will be sharing resources on our website in the coming weeks and offering additional training opportunities in the future.
Thank you again to our ever growing HSG community, some of the best science happens with all of you! 🤍🧠🍤
A MASSIVE thank you to all of the scientists who attended and made this first training such a phenomenal experience. Your energy and enthusiasm for learning blew us away.
Hot off the press!
Happy that this work lead by @HaBaumeister and myself is now published in Hippocampus: https://t.co/4aMyih6KWB
Go check out some new figures!
It's out! The Hippocampal Subfield Group (@hipposubfields) led by @WuestefeldAnika and @HaBaumeister have published an important paper describing cytoarchitectonic definitions of medial temporal lobe cortex subregions, including regions involved in #AlzheimersDisease
Registration is now open for our first training on the harmonized protocol for subfields in hippocampal body!
This 2-day training opportunity will take place April 11-12, 2024 in Toronto, ON prior to CNS. Space is limited.
Visit our website for details:

It also includes an important reminder that the deadline to complete the hippocampal tail protocol survey is extended to this Wednesday, January 31!
We encourage labs who have not yet completed it to do so to have as many labs represented as possible.

Our 2023 Recap newsletter is live! We reflect on the past year’s activities and progress, and note things to come in 2024 including the first training on the harmonized protocol for subfields in hippocampal body (registration details go live Feb 1, 2024)!

One of the most common questions I get from colleagues and trainers is how to QC hippocampal subfield data. We now have a preprint out on this important topic!
We take an à la carte approach in this guide, anticipating investigators may choose to implement some or all of the practices we review.
The goal of this guidance is to improve the quality of data and transparency in reporting within the hippocampal subfields literature. 🫶

Happy #SubfieldWednesday HSGers!
We're excited to share a preprint highlighting recent HSG efforts.
Lead by @kelseylcanada and @negar_mazloum, we provide a review and recommendations of best practices for the quality control (QC) of hippocampal subfield segmentations. 🍤🥳

Using the responses of 37 investigators on views and approaches to QC we:
- Provide recommendations for correcting errors to maximize reliability and minimize bias
- Summarize threats to segmentation accuracy
- Review common QC methods
- Guide reporting of QC in publications
