"Lentävän rukkasen" havainnointi on vaikeaa, juurikin elintapojensa vuoksi - hämäräaikaan harvoin saa näköhavaintoja.
Äänetön liitäjä, ei tee numeroa itsestään.

Liito-orava on selvinnyt paremmin kaskiviljelyn aikaan, jolloin metsät olivat 40 vuotiaita.

Yhteistyö ja verkostot, ne ovat avainasemassa liito-oravan suojelussa. 🤝

Liito-orava-LIFE-hanke on vuodesta 2018 lähtien rakentanut parempaa tulevaisuutta liito-oravalle tuomalla metsäalan toimijoita saman pöydän ääreen. 🌲Tämä vuosi on hankkeen viimeinen varsinainen toimintavuosi.

❓ Liiturin tulevaisuutta pohdittiin helmikuussa hankkeen seminaarissa Tampereella. Kysyimme seminaarin paneelikeskusteluun osallistuneilta asiantuntijoilta, mitä talousmetsissä tulisi vielä tehdä liito-oravan hyväksi? Katso vastaukset videolta!

👉 Haluaisitko oppia lisää metsätalouden ja liito-oravan suojelun yhteensovittamisesta? @metsakeskus järjestää vuoden aikana maastokoulutusta eri puolilla maata – katso tarkemmat tiedot Metsäkeskuksen koulutuskalenterista! 🌿

The first human uses of camouflage date back centuries, but it's only with the XX century and WWI that the use became systematic with industrial production. This is an example of how effective it can be

Potato improved with CRISPR.

↳ Potential to reduce food waste.

Potatoes were originally cultivated 8,000 years ago in the Andes.

It is the third most important crop for human consumption after rice and wheat.

↳ Key to the food security of millions of people in Latin America, Africa and Asia.

The browning and bruising of potatoes causes millions in losses for farmers.

↳ Food is wasted when consumers discard the product due to its poor appearance.

By turning off the gene for expression of polyphenol oxidase enzymes.

↳ Researchers can reduce browning.

In tests it was demonstrated that genetically edited potatoes can spend up to 48 hours exposed to air without darkening.

↳ A state that conventional potatoes reach in just a few minutes.

The edited potato has been submitted to the Argentine regulatory authorities concluding that the product is considered conventional.

↳ Because it does not have genes from other distant organisms.

This means that the potato should not follow the regulatory framework designated for transgenic crops.

Photo shows comparison of browning after 48 hours of exposure.
