@GabrielleOlexa I think Gilgamesh predates a lot of the Bible. Or, the Bible. I adore Sappho's poetry; probably the oldest pure fun. Oldest in its original language? Beowulf. No, wait, I was tested on it, but then for fun.
@NoraMcKinney81 They say novels where self-consciously apt diction andcexpression trumps any need for a tight plot, but I think simultaneous story and deeper themes (social commentary) along w/ richer character dev't since they engage those big questions
