Speech by the ADC National Chairman , Sen. David Mark at the inauguration of the partyโs NWC earlier today at the NEC of the party.
Protocol:
โขIt is with profound gratitude, humility, and a deep sense of duty that I address you as the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). I am honoured by the confidence reposed in me, and I pledge before you to serve this party with integrity, transparency, courage, and vision.
โขToday marks not just the beginning of a new NEC session, but the dawn of a new chapter in ADC; a chapter that we must write together with courage, unity and conviction.
โขI wish to acknowledge the hard work, patriotism, sacrifices and dedication of Hon. Ralph Nwosu and his team who over the years built this party and are relinquishing leadership to our team in the interest of this country.
โขOur leaders and all loyal members who contributed in any way to the growth of this political family also deserve our commendation.
โขI assure you that under my leadership, we shall be committed to full democratic practices and principles that abhors imposition and special privileges. Internal democracy, transparency and accountability will be our mantra.
โขWe will guarantee collective leadership at all levels.
โขWe will build a technically competent bureaucracy for the party and ensure a structured financing. All members will truly own the party.
โขWe will be fair and just to all party members. We promise to be totally transparent. ADC will have zero tolerance for anti-party and other forms of indiscipline.
โขWe shall revamp our grassroots leadership structures to reflect modern realities. From the polling units, wards up to the national level, every organ will be re-energized.
โขWe will open the gates for the next generation. Our policies, nominations, and leadership roles will reflect meaningful inclusion of youths and women and not just tokenism. This is why we have reserved 35% of our leadership positions for women. It is also our commitment to have youths below the age of 40 years in our leadership.
โขWithin the shortest possible time, the NWC will raise committees to review the manifesto and the constitution of our party to meet and reflect the aspirations of the Nigerian people.
โขWe shall clearly articulate what we stand for. Nigerians must know us as a party driven by unblemished ideology, progressive policies, and patriotic governance. We will not leave it to the discretion of individual candidate to choose what to do with power. Therefore, in the coming days, we shall announce a 50-Member Policy Committee to cover health, education, agriculture, technology, security, economy, infrastructure and other services.
โขThis underlines ADCโs focus in achieving good governance for Nigerians.
โขFinally, we invite all Nigerians to join our party. ADC is the only party that guarantees equal opportunity to everyone regardless of age, gender, religion or region. Our handshake is across all divides.

Press Statement
For Immediate Release
11 July 2025
SHETTIMA SPOKE THE TRUTH: TINUBU HAS NO POWER TO REMOVE A GOVERNOR
โ ADC demands end to illegal takeover of Rivers State.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed the Presidencyโs clarification statement on Vice President Kashim Shettimaโs remarks that the president does not have the power to remove an elected governor, dismissing it as โa mere attempt at political correctness.โ
In a statement released by the partyโs Interim National Publicity Secretary and Spokesperson, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party emphasized that the truth must not be lost in the fog of political correctness, highlighting that the Vice-President needs to stand by his forthright and courageous statement, which affirms that the President has no constitutional power to remove an elected councilor, not to talk of a sitting Governor.
The statement read:
This simple truth, which is anchored in the Nigerian Constitution, must not be lost in the fog of political correctness that is currently emanating from Aso Rock. Truth does not respect political correctness, because what is wrong is wrong. What made the removal of an elected governor wrong and unconstitutional under President Jonathan in the case of Borno State, is the same that makes it wrong and unconstitutional under President Tinubu in the case of Rivers State. The only thing that has changed is that while one president held the constitution as sacrosanct and inviolable, another feels it could be manipulated to suit narrow political interests.
In recounting his own ordeal under the Jonathan administration, the Vice President reminded Nigerians that when the idea of removing him as Borno State Governor was floated, the then Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, stood his ground and told the President that he had no power to remove even an elected councilor. According to Vice President Shettima, Tambuwalโs position was reaffirmed by the Attorney General at the time, Mohammed Bello Adoke, who also told President Jonathan that the President of Nigeria does not have the power under the constitution to remove an elected governor from office.
This is not just history. It is precedent. But unlike Jonathan, who has been widely acclaimed as a respecter of the law, President Tinubu chose to disregard the very laws he swore to uphold and tread the path of unconstitutionality in Rivers State. The suspension of a duly elected governor is not just unconstitutional, it is also authoritarian, and a dangerous precedent if allowed to persist even for a single more day. The ongoing executive overreachโfueled by narrow political interestsโ indeed poses a grave threat to Nigeriaโs democracy and federalism. Nigeria is not a monarchy. The powers of the President are not absolute. They are bounded by law, tempered by precedent, and subject to public accountability.
For avoidance of doubts, the breakdown of law and order that the presidency has deployed as pretext to overthrow democratic order in Rivers State is nothing compared with the rampaging scourge of Boko Haram that abducted more than 200 school girls in Chibok, Borno state, slaughtered school boys in Buni Yadi, Yobe State and challenged the very sovereignty of Nigeria. Yet, in declaring a state of emergency in the affected states under these dire circumstances, President Jonathan recognized the limits of his constitutional powers and he respected it. This was the truth that the Vice President reminded us of at the Book Launch of former Attorney General, Mohammed Bello Adoke on Thursday. It was not faux pas, it was not Freudian slip, it was the truth anchored on the facts of history.
In our push to restore dignity to pensioners and families of deceased workers, we reached the momentous milestone of settling โฆ22 billion out of the inherited โฆ48 billion backlog of unpaid retireesโ gratuities and death benefits, yesterday.
Speaking at an event to mark the release of the fourth tranche of 6 billion naira, I described the payments as part of our broader agenda to address long-standing liabilities and reposition Kano State as a model of responsible governance.
The settlement of these outstanding gratuities and death benefits not only alleviates the hardship faced by affected families, but also reaffirms our administrationโs promise to restore trust in government and uphold social justice.
Moreover, I assured that the remaining balance will be cleared in subsequent tranches, ensuring that no pensioner or bereaved family is left behind. - AKY
We have PDP, we have new PDP, we have the coalition represented by my elder brother Elrufai, we have NNPP-APC represented by Kwankwaso. What binds us together supersedes whatever divides us; we are all one.
- VP Kashim Shettima.
I congratulate the Islamic Republic of Iran for standing up to the Zionist bullies and Talmudic troublers of the world, teaching them the lesson of their lives, bringing them to their knees and forcing them to go running to their big brother America for help in the field of battle and to beg for a ceasefire.
In its entire 77 year history the Zionist state has never suffered such shock, panic, trepidation, terror, infrastructural damage and shame and their cities have never been so savagely attacked and destroyed.
They picked a fight with a strong and proud nation and got not just a bloody nose but a thorough beating. Never will they launch an unprovoked attack on Iran again.
I thank God for the ceasefire and for the fact that lives will be saved. I commend the courage of the Armed Forces of Iran who were restrained in their military engagements and operations and who refused to commit atrocities, level Tel Aviv or Jerusalem to the ground or target civilians.
Finally I commend the remarkable strength, faith and fortitude of Ayatollah Khameini @fr_Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, who kept his head held high throughout this war and inspired millions of people in Iran and indeed from all over the world with his humility, resilience and courage. He refused to bow to Bibi Netanyahu or Trump and his faith in God shielded him from death, harm and defeat.
The Zionists and Americans not only failed in their objective to destroy all of Iran's nuclear enrichment plants and nuclear and ballistic missile threats, despite all pretentions to the contrary, but they also failed to kill Ayatollah Khameini, to effect regime change, to spark off a wider war in the Middle East, to take us one step closer to WW3 and to flatten the cities of Iran and slaughter its people in the same way as they have done in Gaza.
I pray the ceasefire holds and I urge the Iranians to continue to be vigilant and to watch and to pray because the Zionists hate peace and cannot be trusted.
Permit me to end with the following. I will continue to display and voice my utter and complete contempt and disgust for the child-killing, mass murdering, ethnic cleansing, genocidal, ethno-supremacist, fascist, racist, religiously fanatic, apartheid State of Israel as long as it continues to occupy the land of the Palestinians, to detain and torture the captives, to indulge in abominable and unspeakable practices, to bring turmoil to the Middle East, to bring war and destruction to its neighbours, to call its citizens God's chosen people and members of the master race and to slaughter the people of Gaza.
I urge every right-thinking person who has managed to retain his or her humanity, who seeks justice, who cherishes peace, who loves God, who regards the Palestinians as human beings and who has a modicum of decency and compassion to do same.
Until they refrain from their wicked ways and horrendous atrocities I shall continue to resist the sons and daughters of perdition, to expose the Ashkazi of Israel and the worshippers of Baal, to spit on their 'Star of Remphan' and to oppose the cult of the Synagogue of satan who falsely claim to be semites and Jews.

I really appreciate how this boy debated there by refuting the point which says: "politics should be mandatory".
Undoubtedly, the boy made a very good clarification about the constitutional right of the citizens to be politics.
God bless you, son๐
