On this Day in 1974: President Richard Nixon refused to hand over tape recordings and documents that had been subpoenaed by the U.S. Senate Watergate Committed. The refusal marked the beginning of the end of Nixon Presidency, and eight months later he would resign from office.
On this Day in 1870: Civil engineer Washington Roebling began construction on the Brooklyn Bridge. The project took thirteen years to complete.The Bridge was completed in 1883, with Washington and his wife being the first to travel over the completed bridge.
Yesterday in 1842: John Tyler’s entire cabinet, with one exception, resigned. The Cabinet was angry that the president vetoed a second bill for the establishment of a National Bank of the United States.
