If Bitcoin came close to servicing the same population as modern financial systems and handled similar volumes, Bitcoin mining would be producing at least several dozen x the amount of C02 it currently is.

Inasmuch as I am one for crypto, this is an interesting argument to make and I think it implies the opposite of the message you are trying to pass across.
The current money systems service in excess of 7bn people worldwide, and powers the current financial systems as we know it.
Bitcoin on the other hand currently has at the most 100m relatively active wallets(and this is a very generous overestimation) and Bitcoin barely scratches the surface of what current financial systems easily do on a daily basis.
By using the same estimates you provided then,
