अगर ऐसा है, तो उसी मामले में जिन मुस्लिम आरोपियों को अदालत ने सबूतों के अभाव में बरी किया है, उनके बारे में क्या कहेंगे? क्या उनकी रिहाई भी उनकी धार्मिक पहचान की वजह से हुई?

लोकतंत्र में अदालतें सबूतों और कानून के आधार पर फैसला सुनाती हैं, धर्म के आधार पर नहीं। किसी आरोपी को केवल उसकी धार्मिक पहचान के आधार पर निर्दोष या दोषी बताने की कोशिश न केवल न्यायपालिका पर सवाल उठाती है, बल्कि समाज में अनावश्यक विभाजन भी पैदा करती है।

कानून का सम्मान होना चाहिए और न्यायिक प्रक्रिया को सांप्रदायिक चश्मे से देखने से बचना चाहिए।

Today’s decisions including the approval for One Lakh new homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) and an allocated budget of ₹8,508 crore for the effective implementation of Viksit Bharat initiatives will provide a massive impetus to our infrastructure and welfare goals.

Our commitment to our farmers is absolute. मध्य प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री मोहन यादव के खिलाफ विपक्ष और उसके सहयोगी इकोसिस्टम द्वारा चलाया जा रहा अभियान तथ्यों की कसौटी पर पूरी तरह ध्वस्त हो चुका है।

जिस रिपोर्ट के आधार पर आरोपों का पहाड़ खड़ा किया गया, उसी की बुनियाद खोखली साबित हुई है।

पहला तथ्य — मुख्यमंत्री बनने के बाद मोहन यादव और उनके निकट परिवार की भूमि होल्डिंग्स में कोई वृद्धि नहीं हुई है। यदि मुख्यमंत्री और उनके तत्काल परिवार ने कोई अतिरिक्त भूमि अर्जित ही नहीं की, तो फिर कथित लाभ और हितों के टकराव का आरोप किस आधार पर लगाया जा रहा है?

दूसरा तथ्य — उज्जैन मास्टर प्लान मई 2023 में ही सार्वजनिक कर दिया गया था, जबकि मोहन यादव दिसंबर 2023 में मुख्यमंत्री बने। अर्थात् शहर के भविष्य के विकास, सड़क परियोजनाओं और बुनियादी ढांचे से जुड़ी जानकारी पहले से ही सार्वजनिक डोमेन में उपलब्ध थी। जब पूरी जानकारी जनता के सामने थी, तब किसी को “इनसाइडर” लाभ मिलने का प्रश्न ही नहीं उठता।

इन तथ्यों के सामने आने के बाद भारतीय पत्रकारिता के एक हिस्से की कार्यप्रणाली पर गंभीर प्रश्न खड़े होते हैं। क्या किसी निष्कर्ष पर पहुंचने से पहले तथ्यों की जांच की गई? क्या सार्वजनिक रिकॉर्ड का समुचित अध्ययन किया गया? या फिर पहले आरोप गढ़े गए और बाद में उनके समर्थन में सामग्री तलाशने की कोशिश की गई?

इंडियन एक्सप्रेस की रिपोर्ट अब एक गंभीर खोजी पत्रकारिता से अधिक एक पूर्वाग्रहपूर्ण अभियान प्रतीत होती है, जिसका उद्देश्य तथ्यों को सामने लाना नहीं, बल्कि एक लोकप्रिय ओबीसी मुख्यमंत्री की छवि धूमिल करना था।

विपक्ष का यह पूरा अभियान अब एक राजनीतिक विच-हंट से अधिक कुछ नहीं लगता — शोर बहुत है, लेकिन सबूत नहीं; आरोप बहुत हैं, लेकिन तथ्य नहीं।

सत्य यही है कि न तो मुख्यमंत्री की भूमि होल्डिंग्स बढ़ीं, न ही कोई गोपनीय जानकारी का लाभ उठाने का प्रश्न बनता है। बाकी सब केवल कल्पना, राजनीतिक दुर्भावना और सनसनी फैलाने का प्रयास है।

West Bengal will have nothing to do with the Suhrawardys. Nothing in this glorious land should bear their name. Irrespective of which member of the family a road, institution, or public place may have been named after, Bengal owes the Suhrawardy legacy no tribute.

The Congress ecosystem is predictably outraged by the renaming of a road associated with the Suhrawardy name. But what exactly are they defending?

If the reference is to Lieutenant Colonel Hassan Suhrawardy (1884–1946), the record is hardly one that independent India is obliged to celebrate. A distinguished surgeon and former Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University, he was also closely associated with the British establishment. In 1932, he was knighted by the Crown for saving the life of Bengal Governor Stanley Jackson after an assassination attempt by revolutionary Bina Das. He later entered politics through the Muslim League and served as its nominee in the Bengal Legislative Assembly, renouncing his knighthood only at the party’s direction. His daughter subsequently chose Pakistan, where she served as a politician and diplomat.

If the Suhrawardy name is remembered in Bengal today, however, it is above all because of Huseyn Suhrawardy, Hassan’s nephew and one of the most controversial political figures of the pre-Partition era. As Premier of Bengal and a leading Muslim League politician, he presided over the province during the horrors of Direct Action Day on August 16, 1946. The Muslim League’s call for Direct Action unleashed unprecedented communal violence in Calcutta, leaving thousands dead, countless families devastated, and Bengal scarred for generations. The carnage became a grim precursor to Partition and earned Huseyn Suhrawardy the enduring epithet of the “Butcher of Bengal.”

His subsequent political journey only reinforced where his loyalties lay. After Partition, Huseyn Suhrawardy moved to Pakistan, rose to the highest levels of power, and went on to serve as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. The broader Suhrawardy family’s political choices similarly reflected an alignment with Pakistan rather than India.

That is the historical memory associated with the Suhrawardy name in Bengal. No amount of selective revisionism can erase it. Whether one chooses to focus on a British-knighted Muslim League politician or on the man widely held responsible for one of the darkest chapters in Bengal’s history before becoming Prime Minister of Pakistan, there is little reason for free India to continue honouring the family in its public spaces.

The decision to rename the road after Shri Gopal Mukherjee, popularly known as Gopal Patha, is not merely an administrative act. It is a correction of a historical anomaly. Free India should honour those who stood with the people of this land, not those associated with colonial privilege, the Muslim League, and the politics that culminated in Partition.

The Congress can protest all it wants. Bengal has moved on. The Suhrawardys belong to history, not to its public spaces.
