Rachel barely addressing Russia and Ilya’s immigration issues in TLG was either purposely done to set Shane up or she maybe just didn’t wanna research immigration but either way it frames the narrative as if Shane is the only one who cares about the consequences of coming out so therefore it’s his fault that they aren’t out whereas in Heated Rivalry Ilya is the one saying he can’t be with Shane because of Russia. I understand that in the intervening years Ilya’s mind has changed, but I feel that she never really addressed why it changed and why he doesn’t fear Russia all of a sudden which leaves a gaping hole in the story
