40 CRPF jawans were killed in the 2019 Pulwama attack.

In existence since 1939, CRPF is a big organization with 246 Bns, (including 208 executive Bns, 6 Mahila Bns, 15 RAF Bns, 10 CoBRA Bns, 5 Signal Bns and 1 Special Duty Group, 1 Parliament Duty Group), 43Group Centres, 20 Training Institutions, 3 CWS, 7 AWS, 3 MWS/SWS, 4 Composite Hospitals of 100 bed and 18 Composite Hospitals of 50 bed.

On that eventful day, 2,500 soldiers were being moved from Jammu to Kashmir. Owing to the risk of attacks by terrorists, they had requested the Home Minister a sanction for use of 5 passenger carrier Aircraft ro shift the contingent.

For reasons not known, the HM refused and asked them to travel by bus-trucks.

Reluctantly they travelled in a 78 Bus convoy on the main road, and thus became sitting ducks for the terrorists to attack their target- a caravan of buses carrying our soldiers stretching over 2.5 kms from any of the arterial roads that connect the main road.

Normally, one would expect that such roads are sanitised before the convoy approaches these points.

Could we not afford the cost of 5 Aeroplane trips?
