Relative Age Effect (RAE) alert.
Of the players on the list:
- 31% were born in Jan.
- 69% were born in Q1 (Jan - Mar)
- 92% were born in H1 (Jan - Jun)
Yes, I understand research shows that the RAE doesn't apply to pro hockey, but this list and its bias are hard to ignore.
Following the U18 AAA CCM Challenge over the weekend, #QMJHL Scouting Central (CSR) released its initial prospect rankings today in anticipation of the 2024 QMJHL Entry Draft presented by @fenplast.

Small Area Development - I like where you are going @aaronwilbur - only problem is the "SAD" acronym. But, I think you're onto something!
Coaches, any other ideas to remove the "Games" notion from this development tool?
@DStarmanHockey, over to you!
Propose we start calling this Small Area Development vs Small Area Games. I worry sometimes the term “Games” discredits the development taking place. The Blackhawks aren’t doing this drill for shits and giggles. They’re getting better!
Thank you again to @Darnold29 & @Sportlogiq for inviting me to present and meet some really bright people in the game. “Building silos with bridges” is 🔑, that is true collaboration.
@JimHaverstrom@CoachRevak@BSlugocki Great points Jim! I think the building blocks / foundation need to be laid before entering the jungle.
You wouldn't throw a pre-novice player into the jungle right away, but the question becomes - at what age do you let the athlete out of the zoo permanently?
Congrats to our friend Ken Hitchcock on the well deserved induction to the @HockeyHallFame!

The general consensus in the wider hockey community is that Jon Goyens is a tremendous coach, a progressive hockey mind who took a team in disarray and brought the organization stability, focus leading them to overperform on the ice. The GM, not so much. https://t.co/fk6HattI8q
Developmental reminder: You’re NEVER beyond the basics, and you never “have” a skill. Top players don’t do skills others don’t, but they are far more consistent within that skill set and make better decisions given the situations. Challenge is getting excited to do the tedious
Sergei Bobrovsky is the biggest reason the Panthers are one win away from the Stanley Cup Final, but he's not the only reason. Give Paul Maurice credit for recognizing in July what his team had to become to have success in April, May and June...
